Model building is satisfying . Whether it be plastic or wood and whatever scale . There’s something about assembling and shaping parts with your own hands that staring blankly at a computer screen will never equal . The same can be said about carpentry or auto mechanics or actually building computers or sewing quilts or building bows and arrows . All those things hook your senses together and engage your whole self . Aquarium and fish keeping are similar but killifish keeping even more so as it is more hands on collecting , storing and incubating eggs .

I built this wooden car from 750 laser cut pcs. It is powered by multiple elastic bands . The windows roll up and down, the doors open and close, it steers, goes forward or backwards and you can see the pistons go up and down. Even has a hood and trunk release inside the car. And the wipers move.

the parts all come on flat sheets. The parts are laser cut making it easy to remove them from the sheets. Nothing like the smell of fresh wood. No gluing is required . I found it relaxing and enjoyable assembling the models. And have great satisfaction once I displayed the working models in my man cave.

That’s the part I like about wood models - the smell of the wood . My ship parts are on flat sheets but they’re held in place by very small points where the laser cutter left off . I have to break those points with an Exacto blade and then lightly sand the laser charred wood down to the bare wood . It takes longer to prepare the parts than it does to glue and clamp them .
