What are you doing today?

Three healthy ones, 2 wild and one F-1. But they are really hard to trigger again.

There's a nice story with the congicum. When I was getting ready to move here, I lost a male out of my pair. He jumped in the mess that was the fishroom being disassembled, and I couldn't get to him. The female lived on her own for 2 years. Then I was able to get 7 of them from a shipment, and she is now queen of the herd. You should have seen her when she spotted the newly released congicum swimming her way. She danced.
There are two big males, a smaller one and the rest are females, all in a 4 foot tank with no other species. They don't like other fish, but I thought those big boys would fight. They don't. They have their own territories.

M nanum isn't only smaller (half the size), but they have some reddish brown in them, which reminds me of my other Microctenopoma, ansorgii.

This group is cool. Ctenopoma are bigger predators, and we see them sometimes too. I don't have space for fish like that. But these Micro ones, at 8 or 9 cm, are interesting. Not community minded, but interesting.
I've loved the looks of M. ctenopoma since I saw them in the Aquarium Atlas. Never tried them though. A West African semi-biotope is on the "someday" list.

After one minute of the Indy 500 race, there's already a crash. Race lasts for about 3 hours. Definitely not boring ;)

Ernest Hemingway said that there were only three true sports and he defined sports as an activity where the outcome could possibly include death . Mountain climbing , bullfighting and auto racing . The rest are just games .

That sewing machine cabinet is just the kind of really nice old stuff you don’t see so much anymore . A relic from the age of craftsmanship . I like it and wish I had it for my machine but my modern plastic sewing machine would look out of place on it .
you can pick up these cabinets and quality vintage machines on Facebook marketplace very inexpensively. I needed to redo this cabinet, started hunting for one to put grandma's machine in, never found one, but I have bought a dozen or so sewing machines, many with cabinets, oiled, repaired and resold a few. I don't spend over $80 for a machine with cabinet, usually less. Spent $150 on my first treadle bought in November 2022. I've learned to negotiate since. new average is closer to $60 for a treadle with base. 25 for a machine no cabinet or case. 25 for needs rewired.

I was really young but still remember a sewing machine my mom had. It was mounted on a wood cabinet and flipped down to make the cabinet a small table. It had a plate under it for feet to rock a wrought iron plate that connected to a wheel on the end of the machine to move the needle. I guess that is probably what you mean by a 'treadie'. I remember that after that she got a Singer that had all kinds of things that were cam driven to stitch different patterns.

I have 3 treadles to keep, and the first one I bought I will probably sell, just to get some of my money back out. It's cabinet is almost done, a little more shellac work and some buffing, it is sewing well, cleaned out the mess under the bobbin case, I've made a full size quilt on a treadle sewing machine before. Very relaxing to use. This is the 66 red eye when I first bought her. i spent too much, at $150, for a not quite working machine but not too hard to fix, cabinet did need shellac. She was built in about 1917. I am tempted to sell her, because I will be lucky to get $200 for her, the decals are not perfect, and I also have a Minnesota 3/4 size treadle in table that works, and a Free full size treadle in table that I need to adjust the tension on. I'm working on an 1893, we finally found a set of irons (the bottom part with the legs and pedal and wheel), because when I bought it, someone had swiped the irons probably to make a table, and it just had the machine, the cabinet and drawers but no irons. I have a friend who is better at the wood refinishing, veneer and stuff, I do the mechanical. We probably are going to make a few pretty and put them on etsy and make some money. The ones I don't have cabinets for, if they have a motor boss, I turn them into hand cranks and give to granddaughters, who love to sew on my little Model 28 Singer handcrank. 9 year old demonstrating on her Singer Model 115 that came in a table with no irons. She can use that machine without supervision, won't hit the pedal hard and run her finger over.

Yesterday I broke out some ANCIENT Wii games from when I was a wee lad. Half the game discs were really scratched (Forbidden Frisbee:look:) but miraculously this one just needed some cleaning.
