In a way we are all weirdWell I'm kinda weird and proud of it.
LOL! I remember that Stat Trek episode, she sucked all the salt out of her victims. I just don't know that she was actually a shape shifter as how I saw the episode her human appearance was an illusion rather than shifting shape.I've been thinking about what our esteemed colleague @Rocky998 stated about werewolves. He erroneously believes that they are shape shifters. No, that is wrong. They are no more shape shifters than is a lump of rock salt that dissolves in water only to reappear as that lump when the water evaporates. On Stardate 1513.1 the Federation Starship USS Enterprise will visit planet M-113 where Dr. Leonard McCoy will encounter who he believes to be his old girlfriend Nancy Crater but is in reality a shape shifting being that feeds on salt. Do you now see my correlation between shape shifting and shape shifters ? The werewolf assumes an appearance to deceive its victims but a shape shifter changes physical form .
From the foregoing explanation we can see plainly that there is nothing mystical or super natural about werewolves. They are but a simple monster to be avoided.
Uh . . . what makes you think this is fantasy or Hollyweird ? Everything has a basis in reality. Even the salt monster that Captain Kirk and his crew encountered was known to retired General Trelane of the planet Gothos. Or do you not remember our beloved Squire of Gothos blasting his display specimen with Lieutenant DeSalle's phaser ? Further proof of the invalidity of shape shifting is Trelane's mastery of matter manipulation by means of mechanical instrumentality.LOL! I remember that Stat Trek episode, she sucked all the salt out of her victims. I just don't know that she was actually a shape shifter as how I saw the episode her human appearance was an illusion rather than shifting shape.
I also don't consider a werewolf as being a shape shifter as the morphing was/is controlled by outside influences. In this case a full moon. To me a shape shifter has to be able to 'shift' by choice, not due to outside influences. Of course this is all fantasy as far as we know but, while I don't actually believe in such beings, I cannot prove they don't exist. Mayhaps this is why fantasy is one of my favorite types of reading.
Another difference between a werewolf and a shape shifter is that, due to Hollywood, a werewolf tends to be upright being part wolf and human. A true shape shifter would take on the entire animal's appearance. For an example a 'wolf shifter' would actually become a wolf, not a hybrid. This would also be true as to other shifters which, in fantasy reading, could be just about any animal but just a specific animal per shifter.
