I was able to go to my dad's work today and he showed us around. I got to see the parts my dad works on. He is a hydrolics component worker so he puts certain aircraft parts together. Really cool to see all the stuff he uses and does there

Today I’m finishing up my latest piece (still needs a lot of work but I have a deadline (cue internal screaming) but hey at least he doesn’t look like Frankenstein anymore (the first photo I took of my process made me want to cry lol

I love how you did the eyes. Looks realistic. Is that your first guy portrait? I ask cause I've only seen you do women on your etsy shop or when you've posted here.

Yes! It’s the first male I’ve ever painted, and this is by commission as well. Definitely a challenge. Male features are much less forgiving haha, and getting his lips to look like they’re supposed to is stressful haha.

If you don't mind me asking, how are male features "less forgiving"?
I've always imagined female features harder because while I know some keep their hair short, others have long wavy hair or pony tails (or another hairstyle, those two just came to mind first). Then SOME wear makeup or have lipstick so then you have to possibly add that as well...
Just seems more complicated. Guys have short hair and 0 expression! Yayyyy

Do you use pictures of someone or have someone actually in the room to draw a person? Or is it all just in your head and you just draw what's in your mind?

For your other question, I usually use a combination of multiple reference photos, items in the room and my own head. This is based off of a photo since it’s of someone long dead, so can’t exactly have them model for me, and the person requesting the painting lives across the country so
