What are differences between aquariums owned by rich people vs aquariums owned by poor/normal people?

Well, almost everything within this field will cost somthing but it's totally up to yourself how much you'll invest. You don't have to be rich to have an aquarium filed with fish, plants, decoration and supplies. Basically, there's nothing wrong about it to use a used tank. The same goes for the other three items I've mentioned. Saves money!
You can even make a tank out of something completely different. Try to make that creative mind get to work...
Does aquaristics cost money? Definitely! But it doesn't have to be much. Especially, if the goal is being functional, then the costs can be kept low. Are you vain or do you feel the urge to show off, than you have to open up your wallet a lot more.
Is a fishtank (no matter the size) in need for all those hi-tech supplies? For sure not! Fishtanks from the past ran perfectly as well without all that hi-tech stuff.
Overhere at my place, it's all basic. Doesn't need all that stuff that the commercial trade offers. And they even want you to believe that your fishtank is in need for that.
My fish are doing well with my basic tank set ups for a couple decades now. Why change...?

If you're handy, you can even make your own filter and such...

Exactly. I’m a HUGE DIY guys. I mean, take a look at my tanks. Anacharis, collected driftwood, desk clip lamps, play sand, etc.
@PheonixKingZ I copied you on your lighting. Works great, it's cheap and does the job at a fraction of the cost. The way you do things is also more fun. Anybody can go to a store and blow money but finding little treasures here and there and making do is way more fun.

I totally agree...

Poor people buy craigslist tanks, rich people buy new tanks, then sell them on Craigslist. It’s that simple, lol.
