what about these fish in a 8ft tank

the only testing kit i have is nitrate, i will have to wait till the weekend to get the rest of the tests done and i will go from there..
once i got the tank i filled it up with tap water and left it for a full week b4 adding any fish..

any more info on adding another gundeton would be great dont want to leave the other gungeton on it own if i can add another

also i only feed them once a day one little pinch full of fish food

Mabey you shouldhold off for 4 weeks before you add any fish so as to prevent overloading your biofilter seeing as how you don't have the other test kits you need to be able to trust the system and you can't trust it if you overload it. Oh and nitrAtes take a while to build up.

OK, your tank is not cycled. Leaving the tank for a week achieves nothing. You needed to build up the niotrogen cycle before adding more fish. You need the good bacteria to form in your filter and under the gravel to convert amonia to nitrIte to nitrAte.

Your tank will be showing a lot of amonia just now and this is the most deadly form of waste. Please do not add any more fish this weekend. You should wait until your tank is cycled. Amonia will go up and then nitrIte will go up while amonia goes down and then when nitrAtes show you're nearly done. This can take weeks.

Please look in the beginners section about how to avoid new tank syndrome.

Oh, and I only feed every other day ;). I cannot advise you on the fish and I imagine that people who do know have left this topic alone becuase you don't seem to read people's replies and we have all had to repeat ourselves.

:X

i have started to feed every other day.

also i am off to the shop tomorrow to get more fish but before i get more i will be taking a water sample to see if it is safe to do so, if not safe i will wait longer. i do care for these fish and do not want kill them...
reason i have not been reading the posts correctly is because i have a very busy life style, and am so gratefull for your advice......

just lay of the stick a little , i am new to keeping fish and at least i am reserching a liitle

when researching it's useful to take into considerationg what you have found out!!

by the way I like the pics you showed of your tank, looked nice

What, and you think I'm not busy? With 3 essays due in the next week, do you think I am not better writing that than trying to help you and more importantly, your fish. Then you don't even have the decency to read my well thought and and researched replies!

It's just rude.

I know you are new to fish but that does not excuse anything. I am fairly new as well, only having my first tropical tank since September. Everyone starts somewhere but the vast majority of people listen to help they are given. You should not be even considering buying more fish and if you had read my last post and the article in the beginners section you would know why.

Sorry, good luck.

How new you are to fish doesn't excuse or justify anything. Its howmuch information you have gotten If I were going to buy my first fish tommorow and I was going to ge a comet and put it in to a 1/2 gallon bowl after being told not to by someone as knowledgable as cheese or Ryan it would be just as wrong as if I were a veteran Koi breeder from Japan. If anything new fish keepers should only keep fish that can easily fit in tanks half the size of there own and peaceful fish to boot because newbies have not yet learned to read there fishes well or how to interpret water tests corectly. Not to be mean but I find that excuse to be rather offensive.

ok guys i understnd your point.
i am taking a water sample to the soon later today ill let u know how i get on, if the water is ok can i add more fish.
i will get all the tests done

You should only add more fish if:

- Your tank is big enough to house them as adults
- Your tank has 0 amonia and nitrIte.

Make sure you get the actual values of your tank, rather than them just saying it's fine.

- If you can provide what they need and it does not conflict with what other fish need. By this I mean the hillstream loaches.

Let us know how you get on.

been to shop got test done

ph normal around 8.5 it was on the chart i think it was a dark green.

amonia 0
nitrIte 0.1

i told them about my dead gundgeton so they sold me to getsome tetra pond medifin treatment.
i have to use 8ml each time once a week for 3 weeks.

i got two rudd which seem to be doing very well always swimming together

did not get a hillstream may get one when i get my fluvel 4, but saying that i am not sure......in the shop they were down as hong kong plecs is this another name for a hillstream

going to get 1 c carp in 3 weeks and maybe another gungeton? what do u think? and that is it no more fish...

right few qusetions

when should my first water change be?

do i use nutrafin aqua plus only with water changes..

do i need to use carbon in my filter at any time?

i have a bottle of nutrafin cycle do i never to use this, and what is it used for?

Why not just look at the packaging for the products to see what they do?

Seems strange that you are adding medication to a tank when you have not even diagnosed a problem.

Hillstreams are called Hong Kong plecs but I have told you sooo many times that getting a fluval 4 will not be enough to keep them.

Got sick of repeating myself long ago.

Good Luck.

that was no help i have looked on the packageing but am not sure thats why i am asking..

i used the medication just to stop the problem or to prevent a problem occuring it saying on the bottle that u can do this...

Hmm. well either there is something you are not telling us or you have been had. If your not telling us something its a bit like not telling your doctor the truth and can be bad for your fish, we can't help you if you dont tell us the truth. Now were your water peramiter really 0 amonia 0.1 nitrIte Those seem very low for a tank that has only had an amonia source (in your case fish, they take a bit longer then pure suff) for a week or so.
