Were Do You Buy Your Fish From?

Although I'm not from Rotherham I would say do your research on your local fish stores (lfs) and be carful if u buy a fish from a big brand store like wal mart.

the larger name in brittian such as maidenhead aquatics and wildoods are ver good stores... i find its the smaller shops that sell dyed and unhealthy fish

i get discount at wildwoos so i go there

Ah. Well then I don't think you've been since the refurb... Definitely worth a visit. I haven't counted them myself but according to what I've read I think they now have 250 malawi tanks...

250 tanks JUST for malawi? Is it some kind of warehouse set up Place must be HUGE!

Yeah it is. It's two large garages (as in the garage you go to when the car needs fixing), both knocked into one.
Here is what was actually publicised about the refurb...

Fish inc is expanding to 3x its current size. Work on our new 250 tank of malawis has already started and new pond and coldwater section, should be open with in a month. At the same time our dry goods section is doubling. We are also, improving our breeding facilities. and increasing the # of tanks in it to 100.

That was posted in may last year. So...Just over 16 months ago.

All last year we added more tanks where ever possible to continue to offer our customers the best choice of fish available. Now we have bought the unit nextdoor and both shops are now connected. We now have over a dozen koi vats and even more topicals tanks! All larger ones too! We are expanding our number of wild tangs and oddballs. Along with new more general tropical tanks. Along with all this we will be moving tanks around in the origonal store to make more room for dry goods and for sale aquariums. Along with this move we will be bringing a 78x32x24 display tank into the front of the shop with our new store pet 'Boo' the tetradon mbu pufferfish. We are also going to have 6 tanks dedicated just to aquatic plants. Along with this we have increased our stock of Koi and larger pondfish such as shubs, comets and oarfe. We will soon also be carrying grass carp and sturgeon.

This is all still ongoing work, once the new unit is offically open we will continue work on the origonal store and as usual increasing the number of tanks. Even more work and expansion will contine in the year 2010. Watch this space!

If you don't have facebook then just check their website...I presume it also has the most up to date fish stock list.

Or check out this thread (it is the sheffield aquatic society forum) and they have the most up to date lists of fish in stock. Including 70 different species of wild caught malawi cichlids.

Seriously...when I say they're the best for miles...they are. I wouldn't go anywhere else except aqua hobby. But at the mo it's still very new, so variety is often lacking.

Hi mate. I went yesterday and they did have more stuff in and it was better than last time. But the trouble was that anything that did look good. Was either under treatment or not for sale lol. I will check back with them at a later date. Still not a patch on Aquaflight though. Very sad that outlet is no more quality fish everytime. I'm going to check out a place in Doncaster later today. I'll let ya know how it is.

I'm from Rotherham so my question is this. If anyone comes from my neck of the woods were do you buy from and who is the best?

I'm in York, so kinda up near you.

I get my fish locally, from P@H (where I work) and other lfs, such as Maidenhead Aquatics. My housemate (who comes from Rotherham) says there is a Pets At Home there. Maidenhead Aquatics is pretty good. Google them - there might be one closer to you. They are usually attatched to Wyevale garden centres.

I also get quite a few fish online - usually betta breeders I know or have found on Ebay.

Do some research but i agree p@h and mb maiden head, ive always been happy with the 2 P@H near me
