We Have A Problem

I have no clue if it is possible to do, but is there some way to check via computer-signatures or some such thing who did or did not place the advertisement on this site? Sorry if I'm interfering with silly ideas and lack of understanding!

this is what the administrator (snake) would like to say - I have not advertised the forum, ive not stolen any resources,

I will call a spade a spade. The statement above is incorrect. We have the logs and screenshots that show this is incorrect. (No, we will not show them to the membership at large.)
What I posted is all I know so I will check with snake again and see where he is in this, as he only became the admin today, and if I'm correct the advertising started yesterday or the day before, so snake is not the one to blame for this if I'm correct or are you 100% sure that it was him, so why not just let all the members back,

Snake sais -" I would like to know what you consider promotion by just mentioning the website "
And just to add - my email was hacked and was sending out span to my contacts

This is what I said - I think what they mean Is when someone comes looking for advice And then you post a link to a different website, then that would meant that they would now go to that website Because they now think that the website that you recommended is better than the original one that they came to

I will not discuss specifics in a public area with all the membership at large -- just state again that we have pretty good evidence -- we don't just make these things up. Contact the admin of this site via email to discuss your personal restrictions.

Specifically, FishyFriend2, I don't think that acting as a go-between snake and posting in the public forum here is a good idea. Please just let snake communicate with TFF's admin via email to discuss the situation. The entire forum doesn't not need to witness this discussion in public.

I can look at the list of names thats been active in last 24hrs and pick out one that I know for a fact hacked a forum that started up last year, very young and silly so this wouldn't suprise me at all.

ummmmm..... what if im a mod on the other site does that mean i get my privileges taken away? i hope not, as ive never done anything bad to this forum

I like to think of this by analogy: If you owned an independent coffee shop, would you allow Starbucks to post advertisements in your shop windows? Of course not! You aren't going to use your resources to advertise for someone else. But, your business is probably better for Starbucks -- more people drink coffee and may seek out alternative coffee drinks to Starbucks' which hopefully lead them to your shop.

Shops are in it for money/profit, TFF is free to use with no advertising. Its a little different, but i do get the point ;)

Looks like i missed all the fun today while in a company meeting, gotta lol.

Not to get all involved and stuff, but I use this forum to share advice, knowledge, talk to fishie people, and widen my own knowledge. If someone points me to another forum that might have an answer to a particular question, or a topic on something that I'm particularly interested in, and my knowledge widens even more, and my fishies are better off because of it, is that a bad thing?

I may have the total wrong end of the stick....but that's my two cents worth... :)

hey Jojo, we find no problem when linking to other 'specialist' forums that don't have the info that is found on here. We 'do' have a problems when linking/promoting general forums for no other reason other to poach members. You'll find 80% of people on this forum belong to specialist forums, this includes the mods. :good:

Shops are in it for money/profit, TFF is free to use with no advertising.

Server isn't free. Bandwidth isn't free. Our spot in the search engines aren't free. The software to run the forum isn't free. The administrating is volunteered by us mods, but I think that it isn't quite fair to say it is free. Right now, all this happens primarily thanks to William, the rest of the mods, and all the great members we have.

We provide this service free to people who agree to our terms. I don't think that it is too much to ask to respect the rules we ask you to follow.

I didn't want to post in this topic or about this subject at all. However, I believe it will bring those who do not understand yet to understand.

A few nights ago, some members were promoting a forum that is NOT TFF in the chatroom. Some members who joined the forum were made Administrators/Moderators. Because these members promoted the forum that is NOT TFF in the TFF chatroom they have had some privileges taken away from them on the TFF forum. This is to stop them from promoting the forum that is NOT TFF on the TFF forums.

Hacking
I am the person who has supposed to have "hacked" the account on the forum that is NOT TFF.

Definition: Hacker: Someone who accesses a computer system by circumventing its security system.

I can assure you there was no circumventing of any systems. What actually happened was this: An administrator of the forum that is NOT TFF give me the password of a moderator on the forum that is NOT TFF. Obviously enabling me to gain access to that account.

That is NOT hacking.

That is actually breach of confidentiality on the forum that is NOT TFF.

None of this has anything to do with TFF. The only thing that concerns TFF is those member of the forum that is NOT TFF promoting the forum that is NOT TFF on the TFF forum.

I hope this makes everyone very clear of the situation.

oh i get it, i think, so you attempted to hack TFF but instead you hacked the forum that is not TFF therefore gaining access to forum thats not TFF

rite?
