The problem you are having is with the site that was being promoted in our chatroom by the Administrator. TFF is secure. Perhaps the group that were made moderators on that site that was being promoted by the Administrator should have a word with him concerning the security aspects of that site. The Moderators and Administrators of TFF have no control over other sites, or the security procedures followed by mods & admins on other sites.

Please don’t include TFF in the “we” of we have a problem. TFF is not affiliated with the site that has had a security issue. If you believe security has been compromised on any site, including TFF, just change your password.

Also, please discontinue posting panicked topic concerning TFF site security when it has nothing to do with TFF. Bring these concerns to the Administrator of the site that has security issues.

No, you have it wrong! I don't care about the other site, its the fact that senior members here have been hacked by someone here and then banned and/or PM privilges taken away! I just mentioned the other site because I was trying to inform you of the damage capable by the hacker! The hacker is a member on this forum, and I've reported him a dozen times and nothing has been done about it. DiesesMadchen and Snake007 are two expierianced, good hearted members who have been hacked and while hacked did something wrong and then banned for no reason! The site was never advertised or promoted, I was asked if I could help a beginning site out by becoming a moderator. Not once did someone go "Hey Guys, Join this forum! It's the best!"

It's a little upsetting you chose to address the fact that another forum is involved, ignoring the fact that two senior and expierianced members were banned for no apparent reason?

The Moderators and Administrators of TFF are more than capable of handling any issues here. This security issue does not concern TFF. You have no idea whatsoever of the management of TFF that goes on behind the scenes, thus no idea of what has occurred concerning other members.

The is NO evidence of any hacking here on TFF. Please refrain from saying that again in the future.

When TFF resources have been abused to advertise for other forums, we take that very seriously. Whether 2 minutes, 2 hours, 2 days, or 2 millenia, you had some involvement in a leadership position on a forum that other members of their leadership had no qualms about abusing their privileges here. I think you can understand our position that that presents a risk to further having our resources exploited.

We aren't going to take that risk if we don't have to, especially so soon after the incident in question. Perhaps this can be revisited after everything sorts back down, but at this moment, we're going to protect this forum from people who have no respect for us and our rules.

being a mod on another site is perfectly fine.

Using TFF's resources to advertise that site is not. This is clearly spelled out in the rules every single one of us agreed to when we joined this forum. And, when people show this forum so little respect to ignore this simple request, we take away privileges.

I like to think of this by analogy: If you owned an independent coffee shop, would you allow Starbucks to post advertisements in your shop windows? Of course not! You aren't going to use your resources to advertise for someone else. But, your business is probably better for Starbucks -- more people drink coffee and may seek out alternative coffee drinks to Starbucks' which hopefully lead them to your shop.

I think that this is similar to other fish forums -- the whole group of us are better to more forums there are. The community as a whole is stronger the more places that exist where information exchange can happen. But, that doesn't mean that we should allow our server, our bandwidth, our position in the search engines, etc. be used to advertise for other fish forums. We feel our resources should be used exclusively to make TFF as good as it can be. It really is just that simple. We asked people not to use our resources to advertise for other sites -- they ignored that request and so lost privileges.

I will call a spade a spade. The statement above is incorrect. We have the logs and screenshots that show this is incorrect. (No, we will not show them to the membership at large.)
