Water Changes Could Soon Be Out Of The Question...

Water.Water Everywhere and not a drop to drink........
One of the downsides to living on an Island on a Planet Two Thirds covered in the stuff.....
Now if that was oil........

There mite be a water shortage in england but sure not in scotland, aint stopped raining here for ages.

@suzie, the population density of the UK is 243 people per sq Km, the USA's is 30. That's a lot more rain per person required. But that's not the whole picture. To draw a parallel, why is it that in the USA, one of the biggest economies in the world with huge financial and natural resource, people in large population centers such as Florida, are content with regular and prolonged power shortages? It's a tough issue to get one's head around!

lol, whataya asking me for? ask an American.

When I was a kid though, there were always power cuts, we just had candles, no one complained, it was just one of those things that happened.

Evan when we have a hosepipe ban in our area we can still use a sprinkler, the only thing is that you have to have a license for it.
I have never understood that , surely if water is short paying extra for does it not make it any more plentiful.

(not a fan of this myslef) don't flush every time you go to the loo "if it's yellow, let it mellow, but if it's brown, flush it down"

That's what my parents do!

Nice twist to the Old saying.

Over here it's. If it's Yellow leave it for th next Fellow, And If it's Brown Flush it all Down.
The same thing just a different way of saying it. :fun:

Where I live almost every summer we go through a Water Shortage/Ban ourseleves.
No watering Gardens, Lawns, Etc.

What burns me is they'll tell Me not to Water my Lawn, Garden etc.
But then I'll see a Local Business Watering theirs.
They YELL at me and Say nothing to them.

This past Summer it got Bad enough that they Shut Car Washes Down, Laundry Mats, and the Water Stations, where People go get Water for their cisterins.
Boy you outta Heard them Screaming.

I'm on City water so i haven't got the Problem of Hauling my Own Water.
I use to have too but moved about 9 years ago.

Everyone was told Not to Water their Gardens. But yet I drive past those who had to haul their water, Watering their Plants/Yards etc. Then when they got shut off they really griped, It was alot of their own fault because they didn't Listen. So they then would have to Drive 50-75 miles to somewhere else to haul their Water from.

Did I water my Plants Yes "BUT" with Bath Water, Washing Machine Water, etc.
It doesn't hurt the Plants and it Helps to Repel Insects from the plants as well.

But most of the Last water Shortage Come from our Water Company being to "CHEAP" to Upgrade the System, and put New Pumps in.
But now are facing Gov't Fines if they don't, They really don't have much of a Choice Now.

But it should've been done YEARS AGO...

It's not really that they/we are content with it.
It's just that WE can Complain all we want, But unless they Put out Studies and Look at the situation, And form Commitiees. Nothing will ever get done Over Here. And this usually takes years.
And the worst Part of it is All they ever really decide on is There's a Problem but what are we going to do about it??
Makes since Huh???

There's an Old Saying When MONEY Talks, BS Walks.
And the Rich guys Over here aren't Going to do Jack Until they have to.
They Keep raising Rates, For so Called Improvements, But all We see is Nothing being Done, But a Companies Quarterly profits Going Up. And the PROBLEMS still hanging around, Not Shrinking but Growing. :hyper:
And our Pockets getting Lighter. :sly:

They seem to Forget, If it wasn't for Us the Working Stiff, They Wouldn't have Squat.

People Gripe about Gas Prices, They Put out Big Cars, They Buy them instead of the Small Ones, Prices Go up.
Who's to Blame, The one with the Big SUV, Not the Ones with the little Cracker Box that only can Haul 3 people.
Who's to Blame the FOOLS who have to run around on Vacation for 3 weeks in a HUGE Motor Home.
The ones who have to have these Hugh Boats and run up and down the Rivers, For the Hey of it.

Am I saying theres anything a wrong with that No, But QUIT Complainig their the ONES who use the Gas Hogs, the Companies know that these I'll say "IDIOTS" are going to Use them No Matter what the Cost So....

If everyone Over here would Sacrifice a little Pleasure, we Could bring these Companies to their knees and Prices Come down. But they are to SELFISH to realize it... If they can't do what they want, Then they Whine about it.

And this goes for all Sorts of Other Things as Well, Car Prices, Utilities, etc, etc.
I was taught to Turn a Light off when you Left a room.
But Most People over here are either to Stupid and or Lazy to do it.
And the List goes on and on.

You say you can't believe this is an American Say this.
Well it is. I can't Stand Stupidity and People who Whine.
I say to all of those Like that, DEAL WITH IT, or make some Sacrifices and do SOMETHING ABOUT IT...

As the saying Goes the Rich get Richer and The Poor get Poorer.
And I sure ain't one of the Rich Ones...

The Prices Keep Going UP UP UP....
But the Pay Stays the Same..... GEE WHAT A SHOCK..... And some times it even GOES DOWN....

Another Saying is BORN FREE and TAXED TO DEATH... And believe me it's the TRUTH....

Am I PROUD to be AMERICAN "You Darn Right I am"

But am I HAPPY (H) NO I'm Not....

Glad I found this - was going to post something on this myself, good job I searched.
Some interesting points here - I guess things could become different if we are forced to ration our water - and even more so if as they are talking about now, metering becomes compulsory in a few years.
Does anyone have any experience of fishkeeping before and after installing a water meter?

Some other comments; working for a Swedish company, the Scandinavians have a completly different mentality to sustainablity and recycyling - we here in Britain are only just starting to catch on - you watch as in the next 10 years we are charged by the amount of rubbish we put out each week compared to the amount we recycle.
Desalinisation Plants - worth noting, one was planned to be built on the Thames Estuary a few years ago, Mayor Ken pulled the plug on cost ground (circa £100m if memory serves).

You've not seen the last of the plans for that plant, of that I can assure you.
