Ok, so I've been selling up a bunch of stuff to raise funds for a new project.

But, I can't decide whether to keep the Rio 240 that I already have, remove the trim and run it open topped... or... sell it along with everything else and buy a second hand 6 footer?

The gap where I plan to put it can take a tank up to 6'6".

What would you do?

Just saying - the big Rena tank is 6 foot 6 I believe... would be a shame not to put that space to its full use haha!! Could be quite easy to find one of them as well :)

6ft for sure, you'll kick yourself if you don't!

Are there fish you fancy keeping that may be borderline, or definitely too big long term for the Rio240?

I personally wouldnt want to remove the trim off the Juwels, unless you know how to do it? I think it may look messy. Why are you gonna run it open topped?

ahahaha ooooh Wills you're such a bad influence!

No. Actually I plan to only keep rummy nose tetras in it... but a bigger tank means a bigger shoal which will both make them happier and look better for me :)

Paludarium... :hey: you've seen Tom's journal... :shifty: :hyper:

I've found a 6 foot tank on eBay... ends next weekend. It's on my watch list.

Oh right, exciting! Lol

Hmm so are you planning to stock the 6ft with the 240 fishes? If you can fill and have the time to maintain a 6ft then go for it!

Only thing is I think other tanks may work better for the pal. (spelling!?) the juwels are a bit uncustomisable, brace bar, trim etc

Nope. They're all going. Both tanks. All the fish, all (or at least, most of) the decor, the tanks, the filters, everything.

I will be left with a filterless paludarium, I'll buy a couple of Koralias for movement and a bunch of rummys. Obviously the stock level would be relatively low for a 6 foot, because it'd be the plants filtering it, not a filter.

You are quite right about this. It's one of the reasons why I don't particularly want to keep the Rio. That, and I looooong for a grapefruit. Oh no wait, that's Eddie Izzard... I looooong for a 6 foot tank!

I have found a second hand tank on ebay, within ten miles of me, homemade stand which means I can paint it to match our living room colours: 6l x 18d x 24h, so exactly what I'm looking for. The guy's been really helpful so far with all my really annoyingly specific questions I've been asking

It's just the moneywise part of me that's thinking "oh but I've already got over £200 saved up, think of what an amazing planted tank that could make, if you just made do with the tank you already have...."

I think I might be telling my sensible voice to shut up and listening to my heart on this... :D

Six footer! you'll never look back. Check out aquarist classified there are a couple on there in your area.

The advantage of the Rio is that you already have it and it won't cost you any extra. If you have the money for a six footer though, I say go for it!

That's just it - I could do it now with the money I've got saved up.... (aside from the fact that I still need to find the fish new homes, of course)

But I really want a 6 footer!! And once I've sold the fish, the decor and the equipment, I'll have enough to buy the new tank AND do what I want with it...

I think I may have answered my own question! :fun:
