So... I am waiting on a new betta since my beautiful boy had to be euthanized.

I was wondering something.  How can you tell if a betta has speckles or if that is a sign of marbling to come?  I have chosen a betta who is sort of a salmon color with darker orangy/red/pinky (or maybe darker salmon?  LOL) fins and a darker greyish/blue along the base of the fins.  He has speckles on his body and I cannot make sense of everything I have read online to tell if the speckles on his body are speckles or maybe a sign of marbling?

I chose him for his pretty fins anyway, so fine if he doesn't marble, just curious.  (no picture to share at this point)

Sorry about your Betta Prairie, he truly was a beautiful, beautiful little fish. My heart hurts for you. :(

I'm so happy for you though that you are getting another Betta, it will be good for you! I am sending lots of positive thoughts that your Salmon/Orangey/Red/Pinky Betta will have an excellent immune-system so he can stay with you for a very long time!

If he is a marble Betta it may show gradually over time, or as I have heard it can also happen quite suddenly. My Betta, Malcolm, he's a marble, and his changes happened gradually but consistently. He did have blue speckles and blue larger spots in the black colouring at the end of his body, with fleshy colour at the front of his body. The black colouring is now all over his body, only his lips are still fleshy coloured. The blue areas stayed the same, but he now has a few new blue speckles at the front of his body. :)

Can't wait to see pictures of your new Betta! :)

I had one red marble female who came to me solid red. Then, one day I looked in the tank and she was half white! Gradually throughout the next few weeks she was almost solid white with red patches over her body. Her face remained red too. I'd had her for about two months before she began to marble. At first I was certain something was wrong, but I did some research and she was fine.

Ohh I hope you get him soon, Prairie, can't wait to see the pictures!

Your description sounds just like my betta Valentino! I found him at PAH

he isn't a marble though, I do love marbles! have had a few in the past including a rather drab so called female sold to me that turned into the most handsome male halfmoon marble!! I have been looking for before and after pics but can't seem to find them as it was a few years ago now but I'm sure I may have posted them on here

Valentino is quite the heart-throb, betta fish!!

Quite similar Betta Fish, except his blue/grey is around the body on the fins rather than the ends of the fins.

Meeresstille, I'm sure hoping the new one has a strong immune system too and stays that way.  I've given my tank a thorough cleaning yesterday and have given the empty tank (well technically has one snail in there somewhere that I rarely see) a half dose of anti-internal bacteria meds as a bit of a precaution.  I shall change the water again before the fish arrives to get rid of the medication.  Hopefully that will keep everything in check.

Sorry Prairie, you did all that you could.

I am also looking forward to seeing pics of your new boy :good:

Unfortunately bad news before he arrived.  He has died.  I am going to look around locally instead and see what I come up with for a new buddy.

Oh, how disappointing! On the other hand it was a good thing he did not arrive sickly at your home and you having another struggling Betta to deal with.
Treating your tank as a precaution is a good idea. Hope all will go well once you find your Betta!

We will get something from somewhere shortly (hopefully).  My daughter is quite disappointed that Riley died, she had named him after a horse she liked.

Oh no! Poor you!
Hope you manage to find another one soon!
