scats are found in all sorts of salinity levels. since african tanks are generally high pH with hard water, this is a fairly good environment for keeping scats.
scats do eat poop, but only to help regulate their water content when undergoing salinity changes. if i recall, there's a great article on this over at www.aquarticles.com. scats do not, however, rely on poop for nutrition. nor would they be at all compatible with ANIM4L's tank (grow too large and too aggressive, plus need to be in groups)
