YUCK! Walmart and their "fish experts" strike again! I was just there and was buying kitten food......when a women and her two little girls come over to the fish. The mom is telling her two little girls to Pick out a bowl, and the so called fish experts sold her 5 goldfish and 1 male betta to go into it!

For the first time I just couldn't hold back. I told her that it was animal cruelty and that she would need at least a 50 gallon tank for 5 goldfish. She asked me if i worked there and when i said no, she told me to shut the hell up.....right in front of her little girls!

I was soooo furious that I just got off the phone with animal rights! They are going to do an investigation.

I just needed to vent! :grr:

I know its not funny but it always makes me laugh - the arrogance of some consumers - you were trying to do this woman a favour, (in saving her from being cruel and upset kids when they die, not to mention the wasted money), just because you didnt have a name badge she presumed you were lying!?! As my dad used to say, theres just no learrning some people.

On a slightly different note, having just left a holiday job at Toys R Us here in the uk, I have a lot of sympathy with anyone who tries to shop in these type of shops. Even in a toy shop you couldnt get good honest advice, not even on the toys! Not that all staff were bad, but theres very few good ones.

Im glad you vented - maybe if more ppl did these sort of practices could be ironed out.
all the best.phil

same people dont know S*** about fish's and they do buy them... we should open our own fish shop somewhere where we can tell people whats good and whats bad 4 they fish's :D

Sorry for your bad experience. Sometimes, though, a different approach may have been more fruitful. Such as making up a story of when had done the same thing and within a few days all your fish were dead and you were disappointed, angry or what not. I've had greater success in changing people's minds doing this as opposed to direct information or confrontation. But, kudos to you for speaking up as opposed to staying silent!

at least the animal rights people are going to look into it. it is a start. as a mother of 3 i certainly would never tell someone to shut the hell up infront of my children. some people really amaze me. besides, why would you lie about something like that :dunno:

sure would be a stupid thing to lie about!

hmmmm i never even thought about approaching it from that prospective! Good idea to keep in mind for the next time though!

good for you nina. hopefully this woman will learn her lesson and not continue to restock the bowl everytime a fish dies. I wish more people would listen to good advice from experienced fish keepers. i think they should outlaw the sale of bowls to keep fish in anyhow. i cant think of anykind of fish that does better in a bowl then they would even in a little 1 or 2 gallon setup. not to mention if you have even the cheapest ugf it makes cleanup easier. hey theres an idea, next time any of us see some dumb parent trying to make their kids happy with a bowl stocked with 50 gallons worth of fish tell them hey for a little more money you can get this little setup and it will make maintenance easier on you. i know as a mother anything that makes any chore easier for me is a blessing.

Thats a good idea too kitty bug. i just fish there was a way to ban the selling of goldfish everywhere unless you can prove you have a suitable sized tank!
