Hello William, glad to hear you are taking her to a vet. I have been making alot of phone calls about her here, and have come up with alot of info. My sister has been a vet tech for almost 8 yrs now, and after speaking to her, she asked me what type of growth was taken off your dog. She said that it sounds as if the removed what they call a "mass Cell tumor", if that is what was removed, then all of the symptoms fit with that. Mass Cell tumors are different than most tomors in that animals have reactions to the removal of them. It may alse be the antibiotics, its hard to diagnose without seeing the dog. She did say that the best thing that you could do was to take her to a vet. She does need immediate medial help to help her. If she is still on antibiotics, then she may be having a reaction to the antibiotics. Animals like us, are unable to take certain meds as it causes reactions. Since you are taking her to a vet, I wont go on and on. I am sure we will all be looking for your post on how the dog is doing. Hope all is better. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Keep us posted.
Sandy

Hello everyone, thankyou again for the kind words it means a lot to me.

The vet has just phoned and it is not good at all. Sometime she swallowed some elastic and it wrapped itself around her intestines causing them to be constricted and in fact it was so bad that some of them were cut through altogether. He said it was the worst case he'd ever seen and his hopes for her are not high. He operated on her and had to cut out some of the gut. I can't put words to the emotions I'm going through but I really hope she can pull through, I'm am not religious but I found myself praying, her name is flora, if anyone else could do the same. She did perk up today when she saw my sister maybe this will give her strength to pull through, having said that she hates vets and I just wish I could be by her side.

Hi William,

I've been following this thread since the beginning with great concern and much empathy. I am so sorry to hear of Flora's diagnosis and condition, yet there is some peace in finally knowing what's the matter. Whether people are religious or not, I do believe that, on some level, all of the love and thoughts that are being sent to you and Flora from all of your friends here on the board make a difference; you are in my prayers. Sometimes animals make miraculous recoveries, Will. That is what we will all be hoping for now.

Hopefully she feels better :-(

It's always very important to call vet if dog doesn't eat or stool at all. I cannot understand why the first vet didn't know what to do??? :< Symtons were almost classic (if you check what I wrote earlier).. You should tell somebody about that first vet...

I agree with AquaNut. I, too, am so very sorry to hear what Flora's problem is, yet relieved that you finally have a diagnosis. Love, prayers, hugs, etc. to you, Flora, and your sister. Some critters recovered from amazing things...keep hoping :)

Poor baby, she must have been miserable--at least now that you know what's wrong you can start helping her to feel better.
I know that at least she won't lack love in her recovery!

Actually, I have a question...does the vet have any idea how the elastic survived the acid of her stomach, and what type of elastic was it?

Again, the very best wishes and thoughts for sweet Flora.

:-( Prayers from Virginia, USA on the way Will. I hope that Flora pulls through, poor baby.

If you need someone to talk to just let any of us know. God Bless

William - my prayers and thoughts are with you, Flora and your sister - I'm not religious but truely believe in the power of positive and loving prayers and thoughts. It sounds as if you have found a vet you can trust to do the best for Flora.

kind regards - sue

William, Our prayers are with you and Flora. I am quite relieved that the vet was able to figure out the problem. I just wanted to add that this time of the year, with people decorating your christmas trees, please if you have animals in your house, do not use that tinsel stuff. If any animal eats it, it will cause alot of harm, as it could do the same as the rubber band did. Also that string that they put on ballons, cats love to chew on it, and sometimes they are unable to pass it, and it get stuck, causing trouble. Again our prayers are with you and Flora, and please keep us posted.

Hi everyone, thankyou all for the kind thoughts.

The vet called on monday morning first thing, flora had survived the night but was in great pain and so they put her to sleep that morning, obviously this news as I am sure you can imagine is devastating for us. Our springer still pads around the house looking for her and rarely a moment goes by when something doesn't remind us of her.

I am sorry I have not replied sooner but I have been struck down with a really bad case of flu, and only today am I able to open my eyes without a splitting headache. I still can't believe that I won't ever see her again.

I'm so sorry to hear of your devastating loss, William. I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers.
