Old Dog, Difficult Decision (+question about toys)

Seems a local anesthetic with restraints might be the answer , AFTER a second opinion.
Now that I think about it, I'm not sure if his body would tolerate light sedation better than full-on general anesthesia. While I'd be more worried for the sake of the vet's hands than anything else (I've tried brushing his teeth in the past, much before the fracture...I don't think I've ever seen him more snappy), that might be a good alternative
