Urgent Help Needed!

You didn't even freakin listen to me did you!!!!!!!

This is a scaleless species that doesn’t take well to exposure to harsh chemical treatments. Usually copper or formalin-containing medications are more toxic than a parasitic disease.

*unless the engineer was already dead and you just didn't tell us.

actually.. i did listen but i read your post AFTER i placed the engineer in the QT tank...

engineer is alive but not well.... the engineer is the worst in regards to whitespot.. completely covered head to toe..
the clown is covered too but no newhere as bad as the engineer... all fishes seem to be swimming well apart from the engineer which just seems to swim to the surface and then gets blown around by the filter... what do i do with the engineer though.

as i dont want to put back into the display tank... but im treating with meds in the QT tank. although on a brighter note the copper test kit isnt even showing a reading in the QT tank.. Cuprazin which treats whitespot, oodinium and fungus

i feel so sorry for you mate, this is my worst nitemare when i get mine setup!!

did you buy all your fish from the same LFS? if so and if they are a decent place, they may well sort you out.

i did read that whitespot needs a host ,and if you take all stock from the tank, lower the salinity and up the temp, they die off. this may not be an option as it takes a couple weeks i think.

i would get 6 blue chromis or something similar,to get a nice school going on. thats what im doing!!

not all fish was brought from the LFS... the only new additin was the cardinal from coral cove in MK i think it was... thats the only fish that was new so thats probaly the one that infected the tank.. it had only been in the tank a week.. have learnt an expensive lesson.. all fish will now be quarantined untill it goes into the main tank..

really sorry for your loss, it makes you feel quite sick doesn't it when you lose fish like that. Ben had an awful time with ich, he decided in the end to leave his tank fallow before restocking

:fish:

tell me about it.. if it was tropicals it wouldnt be so bad but consider the cost and the distance having to travel to get the fish etc etc it must be hard.. although will quarantine all fishes from now on before they go in the tank.. which means i can have another tank set up :)

do you quarantine before hand or just risk it.

oh ok, sorry mate. You can ignore my big red letters then :) sorry.

Just note that any scaleless fish generally can't be treated w/copper. It's always better to research than to make hasty decisions. I'm not writing this just to you superman, but to anyone that's reading too.

I'd say the engineer is gone.

oh i went onto that website and found it very helpful although the layout wasnt the best it was kind of hard to find.. i didnt find the info regarding gobies not being able to be treated the same... although i read it afterwards about copper being bad... stuck between what to do..

well the engineer in terms of swimming wise has been the same for the past 3 days.. before in the main tank i hardly used to see it as it would always be hiding... now and again i would see him pop his head out..

but then it started swimming in the open (which was unusual)
i noticed it had the white spots all over but now upon closer inspection it looks like it has a layer of white skin over it.. breathing quite hard too...

any ideas what i can do or should i just leave it and see what happens...

due to the cycle of ich, it's unwise to put it back into your DT and it's already sitting in copper so you might just as well leave it. Unless you can set up a small plastic container for it?? Depends if you want to go through that much work on one fish or not??

I'm still surprised that nobody else on here knew about treating scalefish w/copper or didn't speak up about it??

The layout of wwm is a bit different. If you go to the home page wetwebmedia.com you have to select marines. if you do a search then note that FAQ's are questions that have been asked and answered. The articles right below the FAQ at the top of the page is what is the most helpful for me.

It is hands down the BEST website to find info. Fenner is one of the authors and there are more, but can't think of them off hand.

Here is the marine page:

You can select where to go from that. Just get familiar w/the site. It is totally awesome and extremely helpful.
