Unpopular Opinions (fish related)

Does anyone have problems reading long-winded replies to posts like I do? I wish posters tried to limit the amount of verbiage and be more direct in their responses. Honestly, the shorter the posts correlates directly to how much I desire to read them.

I completely agree. I don’t fancy reading essays half the time 😂

I am guilty of writing long posts, because you can't give enough info in a short one. People can and do skip them. Hey, but I used to write 26,000 word mini-books and 1500 word fish mag articles on a regular basis, back before the internet.

In half our threads, there are people who write after not reading what the ten posters before them said, or who write answers that have nothing to do with the discussion.

I usually skip over statements in short posts where people don't say why they said what they did. The thought process is often better than the final thought.

You know, I think long winded replies can be broken up if they get too long.

You see, long winded replies from other posts in the thread make it very hard to read all the posts thoroughly. That is part of the issue.

Actually, I liked your posts and never thought they were too long-winded. I like your posts since you're always a gentleman and respectful, at least to me. Some posters can be abrasive, and that is annoying since I like this website.

On other fish forum websites, the number of trolls acting as experts turns me off, and they can be so disrespectful and condescending.

All depends on the post. Some are long-winded, yes, but some need to be long to be explanatory, and some give a wealth of information and/or food for thought.
I always try to be concise and to the point, but I'll often elaborate in an attempt to get the asker to understand the answer.

Just bear in mind that the longer you write a reply, the less people are going to read it thoroughly.

I think the vast majority of posters on this site provide valuable information regardless of the length of the post. I encourage these posters to keep up the good work. I have learned a ton.

I disagree. I think that's just your take, from the perspective of not liking long posts. The poster that wants information will read it, which is the main thing. I think most people will start to read the post and decide as they go, whether to continue reading it or not.

I started this hobby as a little boy in the 1960s. Part of the problem can be writing a reply and assuming the reader knows nothing about the subject. I like this website the best out of the other fish forum sites out there for multiple reasons.

Proper writing means keeping one point in a paragraph and not mixing multiple points together in one long paragraph.

This is your opinion, and I respect that. I guess if one needs to write a long reply, then breaking the points into multiple paragraphs is the best way to go.

Keep in mind that this site is for aquarists at all levels of experience and not only for the few cognoscenti in the field. But I agree that writers should format their responses better.

I agree with this being an inclusive website for all. I mean this as constructive criticism only for the ease of reading threads.
