That's right! I have some unidentified flying snails. Well, maybe they aren't flying, but I have no idea where they came from. I do have some apple snails in the tank, but wouldn't I notice eggs floating at the top of the tank? Plus, I don't leave enough room for them to breed, only about an inch or less. The tank includes gravel (bought new), plastic plants (bought new), and a small piece of drift wood that was added awhile ago. Could they have come in on the driftwood? But wouldn't I have noticed them? Or did Scotty just beam them in? Anyways, I found two and put them in a betta tourture chamber while I decide what they are and how to deal with them. If I got a good picture would someone be able identify them? Gah, please help.

If they do turn out to be pest snails, they probably turned up on your bogwood. Unfortunately, it looks like you're going to have to go on a crushing rampage if they break out too because of your apple snails.

Otherwise, I would recommend getting a few assassin snails but even if your apple snails are adult size it's still a risk!

You never know though, you may have missed some apple snail eggs :)

Take the picture and post it.  No telling if someone can identify it or not until they see them!  ;)

This, sadly, is the best I could get http://mail.aol.com/37614-111/aol-6/en-us/mail/get-attachment.aspx?uid=27400820&folder=NewMail&partId=1

So, I'll try and describe them to you. They are brown, have a kinda pointed butt, they have 3 little ringlets that make up their body, they seem to be okay out of water, and are about half the size of a pea. I've found four that are all about the same size just cruzing around the tank.

If they are pests, what are my chances of getting them all out? Would my Rosy Barbs and Zebra Danio help out and just eat them?

We're not able to view that image :/ You're best uploading it to an image hosting website such as PhotoBucket or ImageShack.

It's pretty hard to identify them from just a description.

Your Rosy Barbs may help you out, it's not as likely with your Zebra Danio though.

Like I said before, your best bet will just be crushing them whenever you see them. I have a few in mine and I go on a rampage if I see any on my glass or plants! :p

The fish will enjoy the "treat" after you've crushed them.  But, its not for the squeamish.

I actually enjoy the crunch

There's nothing better than getting rid of little critters ready to eat my plants. I'm the one that kills the plants, not them!

Hmm, I seem to be of the squeamish variety, as I just can't squish them. I'm 95% sure they are pond snails, so I have no idea what to do with them. Would they be ok in cold water? Do they eat plants? I might just throw them in my java moss jar and see how it goes.

On a kind of unrelated note, would a lfs usually buy apple snail fry? I found some in another tak and I'm not sure if I should keep them and sell them, or get rid of them. If I did keep them, how long would it take for them to reach selling age?

I'm not sure what you could do with the pest snails as I always kill them. They'd had fun with Java Moss though, I always find some in mine

You could always ask your LFS but I presume it's going to be similar with them buying fish and only the smaller, independent ones being interested. It's probably worth asking though :)
