Trying To Breed My Cories

Hi Akasha72 :)

If you are seeing fish farts, the first thing I would check is the quality of the water. Corys do gulp air from the surface and pass it through their bodies. It's usually an indication that they need more oxygen than the water can provide through their gills.

Your fish look healthy and they sure are active. Have patience and you will eventually be rewarded.

Don't cory usually gulp air on occasion?

Hi This Old Spouse,

Yes, it's normal for corys to occasionally gulp air at the surface. What I would be concerned about is the number of bubbles they have made. It's more than I would expect to see under ordinary circumstances.

I didn't know fish could fart......learn something new every day

lol same here!!! I had no idea! They shoot to the surface occasionally but the main problem is I can't adjust the built in filter. It's flow is set. I've always wanted it to be a bit faster but if I can't adjust it, I'm stuck with it.

I probably will change the filter at some point but a good one would set me back more money than I have at present so it's a long term goal.

They're still really active this morning so I plan to feed bloodworm again tonight and see what happens. If I find time today I also plan to change just 1 bucket of water for a bucket of cold

I'll keep you all posted :)

still nothing :(

I've got a platy with scales missing (she's in quaranteen with some protozin as I've no idea what's wrong with her) and I've noticed the odd flick from all the others.

Wondering if it's stress that's behind it all.

That could very well be.

I also know its hrd to catch cories in the act. I do not know how many times mine have spawn, but I have only caught them twice. I have saved about 50 eggs and I have one surviving fry to show for it. I used to try to get them to spawn, finally I gave up. Then one dayd during a waterchange, i found eggs.

I've got to admit I am going down the path of giving up. I know I can't force them to spawn and me constantly getting excited because they're chasing and then nothing happens is tiring.

I think I'm just going to leave them to it and see what happens.

I think me constantly sat in front of the tank watching them is what's stressing them out aswell.

I've now checked the internet and can't find any fish disease that causes them to lose scales in patches. The platy appears healthy - she's eating and pooing plenty! There's no sign of whitespot in any of the fish. No sign of any other illness either so I'm putting everything down to stress. I think I need to just leave them be for a bit

well, the medication has come to the end of it's run. I added the last dose on Tuesday and they all seem to be much better.

Tomorrow morning I'm doing a very large water change and adding a new carbon sponge and then ...

I'm heading out to up my peppered lot to at least 4 ... I'm rubbish at buying cories in ones so I could well be adding a pair!!

Might help my breeding ambitions :hey:

1 new bronze (possibly female) happily settling in

1 new peppered (hopefully male) happily settling in also  :fun:

I think I have the happiest cories in the world right now. I'm so glad I got 2 more today - I think I'm seeing them at their best now. This makes me very happy too :D

Its great to watch them when they're super active, well done on your new additions :good:
