Tropic_john Can Taste The Salt

Came across a question. In reef tanks with probably 3 or 4 fish, will I need a skimmer? I was just wondering when I remembered my lfs has some at £600.00 made by some foreign company and the skimmer looks awesome. Its white and orange :p

It's well designed, but overpriced IMO and will not be capable of even a lightly stocked 1500l tank with that pump turn-over  On a 800l lightly stocked reef, or 500l heavily stocked tank it would likely do a good job. It essentially a piece of moulded plastic though, and Deltec's do proven moulded plastic that are more than ample for your tank at less than half the price new.. Take a look at a Deltec MCE600, one of the best skimmers around, and available new for less than £300 if you know where to look

That skimmer uses and Aquabee pump though, wich is the same pump brand Deltec fit to their skimmers, so the pump at least should be trouble free ;)

Al the best

EDIT, actually, an MCE300 would be fine also
