Tropic_john Can Taste The Salt

TBH, I was thinking about the trigon mainly due to the shape. I love the reefs in corner tanks that go up to the very top of the tank at the back, wirth the liverock sloping down as it gets nearer to the glass. However, when I thought about fish, they really need more swimming space, which is harder to make in a corner tank compared to a normal tank.

I wish juwel brought out a rio 150 lol, that size would be perfect for me :p

Anyway, I've been looking around, and the tanks for sale are mainly rio 180's,300's & 24g cubes :( :shifty:

And did the mods ever look into making a classified for the marine section, so the searches are easier when looking for equipment, fish etc..

John.

p.s I knew seffie would post on here :p

Maybe you would like to add a comment on the suggestion thread running at the moment :good:

You know me too well :p

Just a thought;

In planted tropical tanks you get tanks based on a certain set of rules [e.g japanese, dutch etc etc...] are there any reef tanks based on a set of rules like in planted tanks?

Am thinking of stocking ideas again;

Goldstripe maroon clownfish
orange fire or purple goby
jawfish?

Jawfish needs a deep sand bed I think like 4". Not sure if him and the goby will fight I think they might but it's just a guess based on the fact they are the same shape.

Maroon Clownfish can be bosses and bullies so it might not be a good idea but it may work if you keep fish that aren't shy like cardinals and firefish.

I'd swap the Hydrometer for a Refractometer. Refractometers will give and accurate and reliable reading of salinity for a long time after being set-up. Hydrometers will drift, but inacurate, and some people have even lost stock to them. Spend the extra £20 and you'll safe money later on :nod:

Other than that, your hardware looks good. I used Reef Crystals salt, but your choice will depend on what you want to achieve from your tank...

All the best

Refractometer it is then :p :)

I have had a few people rate reef crystals quite well now, so I'm leaning towards reef crystals. But I like the look and ratings oof red sea salt [name?]

Any ideas for the types of t5 lighting?I'm looking at a marine and a blue?

For Red sea salt, you want coral pro, not normal marine salt :good: The normal stuff is good for FO systems, but not quite so great in reef systems. Red Sea Coral Pro is a good salt supposedly also :nod:

I'm definetly going for reef crystals like you and truck said :) So, what two T5 Tubes would people have in a reef if they could choose, or what do they use?

I'd probably have two Whites, as you are looking at SPS later. You would *just* get away with a select few SPS under two white T5's being a shallow tank, but really you want 4 T5 lamps for SPS species if you are adding Blues to your light rig :nod:

I'd start with 2 T5 whites, then move on to maybe 1 white, 1 blue and moonlights [leds] or would I need 2 blues and moonlights. I might get 2 blues, 2 whites and moonlights? This is confusing :p :S

can you buy T5 Light holders that can take just 1 tube i.e have a holder that can take two white and another seperate holder holding just the one blue light, or would I have to buy two t5 holders that each hold 2 tubes so I'd be better off getting 2 of each?
