well 10 outta 12 hatched so far...
Seems to be swings and roundabouts...the fry seem to be doing so well now i'm losing some ,seems to be the mid range maybe 2 week old stage

Sorry i meant they appear to be doing well,then tonight i was checking the tank and found another 6 had died,i had 3 die the other day
The older 2 seem ok and all the recent hatchings,but the 2 wk old fry seem to be dying and i haven't got a clue why??

could your ammonia or ph etc risen due to alot more babies going in?

My ammonia is 0,but my nitrite every now and then shows a tad nitrite,(hardly noticeable)whether this small amount is affecting the fry??
I very particular about keeping the sand clean and doing w/c's

I don't think the filter is much good,it keeps slowing down,even though it has mature media in,i've just ordered a hob filter,will put mature media in that and see if it helps.

How often, and how much water changes sre you doing. You will have to up these as the larger the fry get the more you need to do it

I agree with what StrontiumDog said. If you are doing enough water changes in the fry tank a filter isn't even necessary. I use box filters and don't put them in until the fry are big enough to keep from being sucked into them. Some fry loss seems to be unavoidable but if you are able to raise a good percentage of them you can consider yourself very successful.

I do 60% w/c twice a day and clean the sand,i just feel as though i'm doing something wrong as i'm losing a few every few days.
The tank is a 12 litres i think.
Does it make a difference having mixed ages of fry in there? my 2 eldest is probably 4-5 weeks old,the middle lot of a few weeks and now lots of new day old to a week old fry.
It seems to be the middle lot that seem to be dying??

even though the nitrites may only be rising slightly, it may be too much for them with their size, my little flea notices ANY changes due to her size

Well i had several losses yesterday and 3 today,think there's 34 fry with the new ones now..

I'm trying so hard not to overfeed them,but its hard when i don't know how much to put in for 30 odd! guessing game

i can imagine. do you clean up straight after a feed?

i'd try feed them, eat for say 5 mins then clear what they dont eat, dont even give the food chance to ferment!

I know how you feel Harlequins! Unsure how to feed the 4 I have left dip tip of finger and see how that goes with the cleaning..

I've reduced their feeds to very minimal now and see what happens...
