Trigon Island 190

Thats a fair amount of trimming!

Purigen sounds good, although i'm pretty happy with my water atm so best not buy more stuff

cheers Si, its needing trimming weekly though! I would recommend using some Purigen (seachem) in your filter, Si. I started to use it as AC, claimed his water clarity was great with it. It looked clear enough to me last time i saw his tank...so i bought some to see what he was on about. Honestly, it looks as though i haven't got water in my tank now! Well worth the money for he water clarity alone.

Hi ian your tank is looking so good now especially with the new carpet. I am thinking of laying some new flooring in my tank  is what you have used by any chance Hemianthus callitrichoides Cuba or Marsilea hirsuta.

Thanks Alex, I do have some HC 'cuba' in there, but what you can see at the front is riccia fluitans, the easy way out of carpeting your tank :hey: I will be selling some very shortly, i have grown loads in a propergator. I will also have some 'Windelov' for sale (if i can call it that, i'll just have to stick a 'var' on it), in about a months time.

o thats really cool. Did you have to tie the riccia fluitans down to small stones or are you able to just plant it in small sections equally spaced on the floor. i want to cover the hole front of my tank so 80cm by around 20-30cm in places

i have use plastic and some stainless steel mess (from B&Q), then hairnets. You can't plant riccia under the substrate as it doesn't root. It does pearl great though!

ah ha i see. It is the chicken looking wire that they sell in the outdoor section of B&Q that you are on about. Plastic coated metal wire (around £18 if my memory serves me right) i was looking at it 4 my moss wall idea for my 40litter tank

it is about 1cm squared chicken wire, it was cheaper than £18 though, it only cost me a few quid. You can use anything though, IE slate, thats a popular choice.

have a read of this...

Lovely to see this maturing, Ian. There is just something about riccia and cardinal tetras. The two compliment each other a great deal.

All I have to say is to just sit back and relax with regard to this scape. :good:

I am wondering something, though. I've never had problems with cloudy water in my planted tanks. I wonder if something is fundamentally different between UK and Miami water? I've never had to use Purigen. Just curious.

do you still have those argentinian swords?
if s how are they doing mine keep growing but they are staying relatively same size -_-

tank looks awseome btw

Gabb, cheers mate!

and yes i still have the swords, they stayed the same size for me as well, for at least 2 months, they have now taken off and are growing like mad!

llj, sorry, i missed your comment. Again thank you muchly for the comment. As for the Purigen, i didn't find my water cloudy or merky before using Purigen. However after adding it, it seemed to make the water clarity 10x better! Great stuff IMO.

i'll try and get some pics up later, as its grown more and more since last update.

Yeah there's no difference in the water Llj.

My water like Ian's was crystal clear before Purigen. Swore blind that it couldn't get clearer. Got curious tried it and now it is uber clear. Almost like there is no water.

just a couple of picks to show how well the Sword is doing at the back.

I'd love to know your 'secret' to not getting GSA build up on the back wall. Thats my only problem in my tank still. GSA growing on the back wall, and on the stones. I know ther eisnt a secret as such, i'm just envious you seem to have the balance. I'm still fumbling in the dark trying to find mine ;)

Your tank really is maturing well. Into lushious growth i can only dream of getting currently. Keep the updates coming!

Thanks James, i did get a GSA outbreak on the back wall, after replanting this scape. I did what Tom Barr suggested and upped the P. I also had a fiddle with the flow of the tank, moved the Koralia about and it all but a tiny bit down near the bottom of the filter, disapeared. Did you gsa not go when you upped the P in your tank?
