Trigon Island 190

@ Carl, cheers mate!

@ Cazzie, It'll be number 2, number 1 wasn't much of sleeper. I remember getting up at 04.00 in the morning, watching Thomas :S . Cazzie do APS filters come with shepherds crooks that go over the top of the tank? and how long are the pipes that come with it. The trigon is pretty tall.

I wasn't a fan of the APS to be honest.. I wish i'd got an eheim now. Probably too late there..

What are your plans then to this tank? Or have I missed them :)

In what way wasn't you a fan, Si?

and the plans are a secret until i have finished!lol

Well...It was too noisey for me. I don't think the circulation is really up to it... but I suppose I would have to compare it... I suppose the noise thing isn't a problem if its in your lounge :)

Well I look foward to pics :)

cheers mate! I have read reviews saying it's almost silent. I hope it's not to noisey or else i'm in for it! There is still going to be a Koralia in the tank so the flow shouldn't be a problem (hopefully) lol.

Yeah, its pretty quiet, Its just mines in my bedroom so you can hear everything I suppose! Should be ok. Good luck (with your new tank!) :)

Ooh rescape, will be interesting to see this pan out. I'll be keeping close tabs on this again over the next few weeks :)

APS are the way to go. More and more people are opting for that route of filtration now, and when i next purchase one i'll be doing the same. Lesley swears by them :) So i'll be giving them a go. Let us know how yours does, no doubt you will anyway.

I had already bought some Leonardite, i wouldn't have bothered if i knew you had some spare! Oh well.

Lol. I bought a box in 2007. 1 box lasts easily for 4 substrates in mine. You only need a 5mm layer at most :) I still have enough for 2 more scapes.

If your 'almost silent' APD has problems along the line, then I've got a spare 'almost silent' Tetratec in the cupboard you can borrow. The 'properly silent' Eheim isn't going anywhere though.

I remember when I was using the Tetratec saying it was almost silent. I still thought that until I got the Eheim. lol. That also had the same issue as someone says above r.e. the APD in that the flow didn't sem to be there.

See how it gets on though. For ever negative on any brand there are many more positives.

AC

cheers Andy, we shall see how quiet it is. I shall report back...

I still can't find a 'tongue in cheek emoticon that myself and Llj have been suggesting for ages. lol

I'll have to 'borrow' one from elsewhere.

Yeah, my youngest is 16months and still only rarely sleeps through. I thought DD1 was bad, until I had DD2. On the other hand, DS was an absolute dream - sleeping through at 9 weeks all by himself!

Yes they do. The pipes are about 1.5 metres long I think. Maybe a little shorter than that. Originally I had both input and output going in the same side of the tank, and cut the pipes to about 70cm long accordingly (having it looped was causing airlocks). Then we rearranged the living room and I swapped cupboards, and so now they are one at each end, which meant I had to buy a new piece of pipe (not that it was expensive - £1.60/m!). They also come with several L shaped pieces which allows you to adjust where you want to place your spray bar compared to where your pipe comes in (you can see it in one of the pictures in my journal), but with my homemade one it would only fit on the L shaped reducer piece that came straight from the shepherds crook bit, so I had to chop a piece out of the lid so it would fit, and have to support the shepherds crook with a block of wood! Considering that it's a trigon you're filtering, I doubt you'll have the same issues as I did with the spray bar not being long enough though - it comes with 4 sections, each about 6-7 inches long, which I imagine would be enough for you (as long as none of them crack on you!).

Yeh I'll just reinforce what Coldcazzie said, don't crack em! The plastic attachments are a bit fragile but as long as you aren't too rough they don't break.
I have found my APS 1400 almost silent only when I open the cupboard can I here it. The hoses that are provided should be long enough, my filter is on the floor under my rio 125 cabinet and I had nearly half a metre spare afterwards. Something to note though, those media basket handles don't last long and the bottom basket can if heavy get jammed very easily it can be a bit of a effort to get it out.

What do you expect when you pay like 50% of the value of any other filter, though it has been flawless for me the past 2 months, bar the handles :p

In fact just incase you haven't got it yet here is a picture for what I got with my 1400, unfortunately like cazzie said the spraybars just aren't long enough.
