Trigon Island 190

aponogeton madagascariensis is not typically considered an easy aponogeton. Literature says it likes higher light, so I am very curious. You've got pressurized CO2 and you are dosing. If it survives, it will be yet another plant to add to the "really doesn't need high-light" list!

I would have shown it off and put it more towards the front, though. It is rarely seen. You have a lovely specimen, not overly dark.

I bought it as a bulb, i read about it before buying, my LFS said they were gonna get some in. It was on £3, so i thought i'd chance it and hey its doing really really well, i popped it at the back knowing how big they get. The leaves are remaining thin (about an inch), i thought they'd be wider, maybe that it to do with the light. I have added reflectors to the lights.

wow what a lovely tank!! :good: can you tell me why you wouldnt recommend tpn+ though? (im buying fert today ;) ) and what you do recommmend?

Thanks Fluffycabbage.

i did used TPN PLUS, but decieded to start dosing my own (Easylife fert range) because i started using more and more TPN and it was getting expensive. I'm still on my first lot of Easlife fert range. I was gonna start using EI and still might, so as for TPN i would recommend, its good stuff.

Ah literature. How I so love literature. lol

Remember Liam's moss tank from years and years ago? Another low light stunner :) Take a look at it (link below.) Low light and yet. a monster in the centre . lol. I wish I could forget the odd thing occasionally but my mind is like a very fine net. 'Need more data'

Ian - Although corner tank are not really my taste nor rock backgrounds you certainly have a knack for growing plants. They look mint in there. Nice layout too. Like those Praecox piccies too. Nice fish.

Keep it up. Lets see some height in there :)

That tank is stunning  that plant is great, I want...! The moss is fantastic too..

AC stop posting all this nice low light tanks

thanks guys, thats a nice broad leaf on the aponogeton madagascariensis, AC. I'll have a look through that journal. Looking back those photos were only a week ago and the growth has excelled from then. The Riccia is taking off, i'm gonna have to order some more, as i'm planning on having it all around the front. Got quite a bargain from The Aquarium (local lfs), i got for pots direct from aquafluer for £8.

I have been thinking about the aponogeton madagascariensis and moving it, to make it more of a center peice plant, but can't work out where to put it?

Lol - you only ever need to buy Riccia once. If it is taking off now then its gonna need a haircut or it'll just pull away from the slate with it's bouyancy ones it gets too bushy.

At that point you trim and then scoop it all off the top. Put it in a pot and float it on the top of the tank under the lights and a couple of weeks later you have masses of it.

The pot won't shade anyting because it'll move around when floating and therefore nothing gets shade for more than a minute at a time.

Be careful with the lace plant. If you go for it in a prominent position it may take over and then it will be a *wotsit* to take the roots out and replant. I made that mistake with some Nuphar Japonica once :)

cheers for that AC, i'll re pot when a haircut is needed. :good:

also i'll leave the aponogeton for now.

See, now I'm going to try Aponogeton madagascariensis.

I remember Liam. That was a great tank. Where is he?

Corner tanks are probably some of the toughest tanks tot scape. Automatically destroys the Golden ratio. Lends itself to Island scapes alright, though.

Trying to figure out how ianho can get some height there. The lily looks amazing. Vallis, crypts? Corner tanks tend to be tall too. You still planning to attach stuff to the rock background? That might fake height.

Just gave me a vision there :) An island scap cut in half coming from the rear corner to the outer sloping towards you. something I've not seen before ;) Great thinking Llj. I can't post an example on this one.

Yes, it would radiate from the center corner outwards toward the curve. Would be lovely with moss-covered wood. I see smaller, thinner more branchy pieces. Not the huge Mopani clunckers I have. When my 36g is exchausted or when I get some money, something to try. Can still use most of the plants I've got, just have to change the wood. I've always wanted to do something like this, but no money to buy the right wood yet.

EDIT: Realized that I edited your post SuperColey1 instead of replying. Doh! :X

At least you realised :) I ruined many threads on ASW at the beginning and asked if they could move the edit button as I was just clicking where the reply button would usually be. lol

i have thought about taking the water level right down when doing a water change and superglueing some large leaved java fern on the back. I'm really not sure if it would look good though, i think i'd have to make it look really un-uniformed.

I think Large leaf Java would look a little out of place. maybe needle but I think moss would be better. Not as a full moss wall but if you get small amounts on there it will grow naturally along the 'grooves' and 'rough spots' of the rock. Let it work its own way through as it attaches rather than cover it.
