I've put some eSHa Exit White Spot treatment in today, and as instructed removed carbon part of filter. Also advised to not feed for period of treatment to reduce risk of ammonia spike, but given that advice has slightly concerned me now as it suggests that there is a risk of a spike so want to test it to keep an eye on things.

I've got Nutrafin liquid test kits. Can I use those tests while the water is full of the treatment? Would it affect the readings? Can I assume that the remainder of the bacteria will be sufficient if not adding more nitrogen to system?

Cheers
Sven

The risk of the spike will be from the removla of the carbon, rather than anything related to the treatment.

Having said that, you should be able to test but EXIT is coloured, so you'll need to take that into account.

Yes, its because the filter is now below par that I am a little concerned. It's by no means a mature tank, and while the readings when last tested were fine (NO3 a tad high to be fair, but still OK), I don't know how resilient it is to having the carbon removed.

So do you think it is the colour of the treatment rather than any chemical interference that could cause a problem if I test? Looking at the acive ingredients in EXIT, I have no idea if they are loaded with nitrogen or not, and as it says it is fully biodegradable, I have no idea what it will degrade into. I'll try the test tomorrow, and see what comes up, but just want to be a bit more certain about how to interpret the results.
