I agree with some people here about keep your noses out of the countries business. Dolphin is food for the Japanese, you don't see campaigns to stop the killing of millions upon millions of Salmon etc.

That's incorrect, Whale meat or Sushi is a staple food, not Dolphin/Porpoise meat. And even that is slowly being eaten less and less now. Dolphin meat is Sometimes sold labeled as whale meat, so consumers dont even know they are not eating what they paid for, and when they found out it upset them greatly. If that happened here there would be chaos!

There was a campaign about salmon somewhere before, overfishing hurt the population and Orca's who ate the Salmon were affected, this was a few years back though. Pollution also affected the population.

Just want to chime in that, dolphins are technically whales :p

I know that, but the people didn't want to eat dolphins, lets not get too technical, a whale to most are the huge mammals that breath air and are bigger than boats.

Hmm. Weighing up the issues. Both sides...

Most have a good point.

While I think people should be told about this stuff, especially the Japanese... Media coverage (and I include the documentary itself in this) tends to be very sensationalist. They blow the exciting/disgusting/sellable/controversial up and forget about the rest. This leaves a somewhat imbalanced argument which will be extremely biased. It's a shame that someone pointing this out and asking to be shown a scientific study on the effects of things is enough to have someone get defensive about their cause.

Personally I probably would have closed the topic once that started (don't want it getting out of hand like one did ages ago was it supermarkets or something?). So well done mods for being brave enough to leave it open.

It seems that most of the force feeding has been addressed now so that leaves the killing.

Yes it's not pleasant. But do you know how long it's been going on? It's possible that the dolphins have adapted by having more children, and stopping completely would overload the ecosystem. Again no facts there. It's just something to look into before you shout stop. So then it becomes a matter of humanity. How humane you make it. Now that IS an area to attack these people on. And that is the angle I would use.

do any of you guys watch whale wars? that show's pretty dramatic (though they put down a good point) it just sucks that all that they can really do is fly their helicopter and use that annoying speaker thing. anyway, in one episode the shoshan maru (the japanese ship) claimed that whaling was a tradition. well, the crew went to japan and interviewed some people to find that they don't like to eat it, nor is it part of their religion, nor is it a japanese tradition. i don't even get the point of whaling. killing helpless endangered animals for making candles out of blubber? those nutcases should be tortured! they destroy multi million dollar ships of people who are just trying to respect earth while the nutcases are killing the earth, one animal at a time! im not a hippy, i dont work for greenpeace and i am not an activist and thats imao.

Firstly, the film is made my "Dolphin Lovers". Biased you say?
Secondly, most information you find on the internet or in newspapers are mostly a "westerners point of view". And as we know, were very soft.... "awwww there killing dophins". So its hard to find facts.

Anyways... http://www.cooks.com/rec/view/0,1726,155188-245195,00.html :hyper:

I forgot who said that if this happened in England (Mislabeled food), there would be an uproar. Dont know how true this is but a little bird told me haddock is been replaced in londons fish and chip shops by a similar, cheaper fish from asia. Sorry no facts but thought it was worth mentioning.

Dont want to say to much before i know what your arguing about. The Dolphins? Or the Japanesse people?

EDIT: The links not working properly, but if click it then search dolphin, you'll get many results.
