I didnt know where to post this, but I figured marine fish fits best. I saw this movie called
The Cove" about the horrible killing of dolphins in Japan that is a cover up from the public, they are thought of as "pests" by the government and they are selling dolphin meat with deadly amounts or mercury in them to the public. The whole World had heard about this and they have a petition you can sign to stop this cruel act. Dolphins arent protected under whaling laws (dolphins and porpoises are the smallest types of whales actually) so signing this will also hopefully get them protected. i watched this about a year back at a festival, it shocked me! ive been to taiji many years ago and knew nothing of it

everyone needs to see this film!

i have it on dvd if anyone wants to have a copy?
plus you can donate to the cause and help them out.

its sick, wrong and still happening.

also, to go into a bit more detail, there was an outbreak years ago in japan where dolphin meat was offered to schools for school dinners.
it is compulsory for japanese children to eat all of their lunch.
dolphin meat is very very high in mercury, on average 2000ppm, compared to the world health organisations guidelines of max 20ppm (i think) it is repackaged as whale meat and still sold in japan.
because of this there was an epidemic of children being born with deformities and blindness etc. if this continues it will happen again.
the japanese government knows this but still does nothing to stop it.


ironically, the guy who is trying to stop all of this is the same guy who made flipper.
the cove in taiji is the single and only place sea world goes to hand pick its dolphins.
the rest are slaughtered in a terrible way.

mods, if you think this is too graphic then by all means remove the images, but i strongly believe people need to see this for it to make a difference.
its cover ups and changes in the media that always hide these disgusting things, and it needs to stop

seffie, i know what your saying but part of the reason this kind of thing happens and continues is because of censorship and media cover ups.

i truly believe that people need to see this.

everyone is so desensitized nowadays by films, games and media, they dont tend to be shocked by horrific things like this unless they can see it.

when i was a kid, im talking 14 plus, i was shown things like this, it helped me understand whats right and wrong.

if people see it, maybe they will be as shocked and disgusted as i am and try to do something about it

Every year 23000 dolphins are slaughtered for the food trade in japan. Thing is, Japanese people dont tend to eat dolphin, so it is repackaged as various whale meats.
Dolphin meat contains 2000 ppm of mercury, one of the most toxic chemicals on the planet! They are knowingly poisoning people, and deliberately covering it up!
They even supplied dolphin meat to schools for children, and it is compulsory for the children to eat it!
They are poisoning children too!
Minimato disease had a huge break out in the late 50s and caused deformities, deaths and other horrible problems with children, this was from mercury poisoning from fish and dolphin meat being offered.

Watch the documentary film The Cove to learn more about this sick sick trade, and if it doesnt make you wanna do something about it, you are not human!

Something needs to be done to stop this from happening, and although they now claim to "quickly and humanely" slaughter these dolphins, it is proven that they dont!

i agree but how could some people do that to dolphins. i guess a lot of money is in this.

Well, they are poisoning their people with this tainted meat, and taking too many Dolphins from the ocean will unbalance the ecosystem. We all live in this world, so indirectly in will effect everyone in some way.

Can you please provide a credible source for the japanese poisoning people and forcing people to eat this meat? And a PETA style cideo doesn't count.

I'd hardly call a site called "savejapandolphins" a credible and impartial source.

The Guardian is a better choice if you wish to inform people, though still not perfect.

Those sources discuss the effects (or lack of them) or mercury poisoning etc. As I asked, do you have a credible report that people are force fed dolphin meat in schools? These sites you have nbeen linking to are refering to a study in one village.

I'm just trying to say that if you want to get people on your side it's better to present facts rather than partisan websites and angry posts. Correct capitalisation and grammar also make your posts more credible and persuasive.

And no one is dismissing the fact this happens and being naive, rather I'd say it is naive to fully believe every story or documentary without examining the motives behind that story, the way the facts are presented and the sources of the story.
