A photo of the few free polyps I found on the Galaxea coral. I believe it is some type of Clavularia, if anyone knows please do tell. They are at the bottom right of the picture.

After the rearrangement last night following the crab removal, it appears I did not put things back quite as they were, I caught this happening earlier.

A little stung.

As I said a couple of days ago, I had a look at the TMC stock list for Flasher and Fairy Wrasses, I went through some pictures in a book at the LFS and finally we narrowed the choice down to two.

The Paracheilinus filamentosus (Filamented Flasher) or Cirrhilabus rubrisquamis (Red Velvet Fairy) whilst they were on order I did a little reading and discovered the C.rubrisquamis grew a little larger, this was a disadvantage as I am pushing the size slightly anyway.

These are links to the two fish as adults.

P.filamentosus
C.rubrisquamis

I also discovered that it did not matter how many pictures you looked at they all looked a different colour.

I arrived at the LFS this afternoon very excited and boy what a delivery she had this week, there were some amazing fish. She showed me which two tanks the wrasses were in and I examined the two. The fairy (C.rubrisquamis) was stunning, it was also quite large already, I had already read that they do not show up in the trade very often and just that attracted me to him. I examined the Flasher (P.filamentosus), I could see that there was some stunning blue finnage that went to purple and red. It was a very hard decision, I wanted the Flasher to flash so that I could see a little more of the finnage so the lady fed hime for me. He had a voracious appetite and also flashed at the anthias in the tank with him. He is only a small medium sized fish so did not yet have adult colouring but I could see he was stunning.

I stood back for 5 minutes and went to have a look at the corals whilst making my decision (I did refrain from a coral purchase today, oh the willpower that took).

I had to be sensible, I did not know exactly how long it would take me to get the larger tank, plus that blue is amazing.

I went for the Flasher - Paracheilinus filamentosus - Filamented Flasher Wrasse I am determined though, as soon as I have that bigger tank, I will be getting one of the others, as long as it is as good a specimen as that one was.

The cleaner has spied a new fish and is moving in for the big clean

The fish does not want cleaning, but wants to get away

He is not yet showing the colours he was in the shop, also he is a little quick, the photos really do not show the colours I am seeing.
I am sure he will have stunning colouring in the coming months.

I hope you like him. :good:

Thanks, he is gorgeous, hope you will think he is even more gorgeous when you have seen these photos.

He went to bed very early last night, about 6.00pm, he has decided that his bed is in the gap between the mushroom rock and the big rock.

He has also noticed that the side of the tank is reflective, this meaning he is flashing at another male. This I have read will help him keep his colours, as will adding a mirror.

Just out this afternoon

This is not even his adult colouring yet!!!! OMG what will he look like then

WOW that is a lovely looking fish Tiger

Must admit, I like my emerald crab and he did make short work of my hair algea. He hasn't done any bulldozing for a while, (Hope I haven't tempted fate!!) and he's great to watch :good: so I will allow him to stay Hee Hee. They do get big, fast though

OMG tiger, that is an awsome coloured fish and i luv its coluration whilst flashing... I am tempted into gettin one for myself!!! I already have a solar wrasse, a mckoskeri, and a exquisite wrasse... think they are beautiful!

Thanks all.

He is getting braver at the moment, did not expect to see him out so much so soon but this evening he is really exploring the nooks and crannies in the tank.

One thing I have learnt with these wrasse already is that the colours you see in photographs no way do the fish justice. I cannot believe the colours I am seeing, it is leaving me gobsmacked.

I am now leaning towards my next tank having a fair amount of these wrasse in, especially with the fact that my lfs is so good and I can see the TMC stock list and go through to choose a few. Have done some reading on one particular thread on RC and it could be a stunning tank.

Will keep you updated with photographs as his colours mature.

:thanks:

might get one myself :p

he is a stunner, i bet the flashing is amazing to watch. does he change the colour himself? or is it a certain body pose which shows off the blue in the light?

No Truck the colour actually changes, it is amazing, the whole of the body and the fins and then you get a blue irredescence on top. I will really try to get some more pictures, need to play with some camera settings, it may show up better on camera if I manage to get a photo under just the actinics.

If you got one, you will not regret it, Trust me. :good:

A few pictures of the new boy out and about, aswell as a few of the other tank mates.

He seems to have settled in well and fed well last night.

Thats looking nice for the short time its been running TI :) Nice wrasse too(oooo-errr Mrs  ).

You have quite a few stinging/vicious corals in a small area though, so you will have to keep a keen eye on it all, especially as they grow, frogspawn for example can grow at an alarming rate when its happy(brilliant for trading in a few heads at your LFS though :hey: ) and bubbles have really long tentacles(looks like your leather may be in range).

All in all, its looking good :good:
