Ever since setting up my 29G tank, there are tiny bubbles all over the place. Eclipse 3 Hood for filtration system. Bubbles collecting and covering the top of water surface. Not collecting on the surface of the tank. But visible blowing around.

What the heck???

Any need to worry?

All parameters remain ideal (ammo, nitrite, etc)

it's normal, i have the Eclipse 2 hood, i always have tiny bubbles everywhere. That filter outlet was really poorly designed.

It's the filter outlet??????? You mean the water returning to the tank??????

Brother. That's ridiculous.

Unless u can see the bubbles coming from the outlet, or its pointed at the surface, then i dont think its coming from there. Do u have alot of plants growing well in the tank ? that produce oxygen bubbles, or the only other reason i can think of is if u have just set-up the tank or just dont a pretty big water change ?

Stickle the tank set-up is new ... 'bout 4 weeks now. Bubbles on first fill of course, collected around inside surface of the glass. Wiped those off and never came back.

I do about 25% water change regularly, but there are no bubbles collecting on the glass or even the heater or filter intake surfaces like you'd expect from that.

I do have plants, but only the ones I brought from a 6G tank and there were no bubbles in there. So the plants are far less of a presence for now anyway in this 29G tank.

I'm not sure what you mean by "pointed at the surface". The Eclipse 3 has 2 water return outlets right next to each toher in the top right corner of the tank. They swivel, so I've tried turning them away from each other, facing the same direction, and facing each other, but no difference. You can see where the water is going in (the water level goes above the outlets), and one or two bubbles can sort of gurgle from there.

But the tiny bubbles are just sort of swirling everywhere in the tank, and gathering on the top.

Still puzzled but I may contact marineland.

Just called Marineland. The tech support there is usually very good. The guy knew what he was talking about I think, but he had no idea what would cause this and said he was not aware of reports of this as a problem with the Eclipse hoods, which he claims to own in all sizes at his house.

Could it be the carbon filter pad???????

Well its got me baffeled also!

If u have just put in a new carbon pad then yes thats a possibility, but u should be able to see the bubbles coming out of the filter tho in that case....look very closely!

I thought bubbles on stuff just meant good aeration? You should see mine when I hook an air line up to my powerhead :p

Yeah, I've decided not to worry about it.

Now that I've noticed a layer of green algae building on the bottom

Gonna water change and vaccum like crazy this weekend! :hyper:

Ostrow. Very soft water can allow this to happen occasionally. IT wouldn't be the source of the problem, but would amplify it.

Thanks GL. Now this is getting odd. I did a General Hardness test and the result put my water if anything a bit on the hard side of average!

I also have a Kh test. But I don't think that's what you were referring to.

While kh and gh are not the same exact thing, we can draw the conclusion from either test on your hardness. Sounds OK. I wonder if you could have an impeller not seated well, or in poor shape, causing cavitation.

Thanks GL.

I did a 50% water change and I removed and cleaned the impeller. Seemed ok for a while, but now the bubbles are back in full force and there's a weird sound. So I called Marineland again, and they are going to replace the impeller (though they don't think this is the problem, when they had no other idea I said, "Yeah, but GL says..." :fun: :fun:

So, I'm hoping this fixes it. If not, may need a whole new hood. Ugh...

Hey ostrow im new to the board but i dont think you should have to worry to much about the bubbles. i have and emporer 400 and it tends to have tiny bubbles come out of it too. i think it has to do with forcing the water through the bio wheel. i know ive heard of other people having tiny bubbles caused by there bio wheels. at times the bubbles in my tank will start to take over but that usally never lasts long. any way i think you shouldnt have to worry
