There's been almost no beating down of Tommy Gunn. All of my recent posts have been concerned with my disagreement of Mr Gunn's interpretation of how the differing osmoregulatory systems of FW and SW teleosts will affect their susceptibility to nitrogenous waste in the water.

Indeed, the only ad hominem attack I can recall is from Tommy Gunn against me. Maybe you should take the time to read the thread fully and look at what is actually being said rather than coming in with a completely misguided view of what martial arts is. Have you ever studied Karate? Have you ever noticed that all of the kata begin with a blocking move, to symbolise the fact that using the fighting style of "open hand" is a last resort, and not an attacking force? On a similar note my brother is currently training towards in Fujian White Crane Kung Fu and again, they are first taught to avoid conflict wherever possible as no training makes one immortal. they certainly do not advocate the use of violence on those you cannot defeat in a verbal or mental argument just because you don't get your way.

Enlighten me, which branch of martial arts did you follow which taught you to quickly strike another just because they do not agree with your argument?

Okay, okay.....Let's set it aside. While I think that I have taken a lot of brunt from some of the things I have said, I realize that I didn't start off on the right foot either so it is all good. My problem is, unlike a lot of people on this forum, the fact that I read a lot and don't always take a running tally of where I read it....and in fact, I spent a lot of time on forums and spit back information so frequently that it is easy to forget resources and such. Thankfully I have found the wonderful world of internet 'bookmarks'!

In any case, I really hate to see things such as this happen; although I have a semi-short fuse myself. So, in contradiction to my own actions, let's let sleeping dog lie.

For the record though, my ad hominem 'attack' was brought on by other's comments and I had a bad mindset against you before I met you....but again, it all works out in the end.

Well i did 1 year of solid boxing, got my golden gloves was going to go state but that was not my goal. Did around 7 months of kick boxing. Than i started on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and i am still doing that. Monday to wednesday Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu the rest Tae Kwon Do. I still polish up my boxing when i can, i am deffinately enjoying all the bone breaking holds.

Need any more proof i will be happy to enlighten you. I understand, i am good at fighting you are good at knowing everything. Even beyond this thread you start AGAIN with something YOU think you know more than people about. I feel sorry for you...

At the risk of upsetting Lyndden...

And remind me exactly which of these martial disciplines teaches you to resort to violence and striking the first blow just because you don't agree with what the other person is saying (after all, you said that Martial arts taught you to how just kick people like me in the head).

I know that boxing doesn't teach one to strike the first blow when the other person is engaging in an evidence backed debate. The person I play rugby with who used to train with UK national level fighters says kickboxing didn't promote striking the first blow either (at the very least because - as with boxing and most other martial arts - doing so lands one in a lot of trouble with the police due to the fists becoming "weapons" in the eyes of the police).

I am unsure on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. I have never had the oppurtunity to discuss it with a practitioner. So perhaps it is that discipline which teaches one to strike when one is not able to win an argument. Am I correct? Are you taught in BJJ to strike first and ask questions such as "Was this person ever going to present a physical danger to me" later?

May as well throw in my two cents...

Firstly Andy never once claimed or implied to "know everything" and indeed he regularly ensures the rest of us that he does not.

Secondly, if a question-asking thread is started, the person replying to it by all logic will know more, about that subject, than the person who asked the question. Which is why the person asked the question in the first place; to get the answer from someone who knows. So, in that context yes, the person answering should think they know more about the subject than the person who asked the question. Remind us all why you feel sorry for Andy but do not also feel sorry for everyone that regularly participates in this forum?
