For anyone even considering starting a nano tank:

I keep all of my receipts- from my daily bagel to tune ups on my car- I have everything from this year. I just added together the amount of money I have spent on fish THIS year.

The grand total: $853.43

I own a 22 gallon nano tank... with 4 fish and no coral... realize what you are getting into before you do. (This is not to say that I am mad about this at all, no. I am very pleased with what I have accomplished and will continue to spend ridiculous amounts of money just to have a piece of the ocean in my room).

Agreed this is not a cheap hobby and probably never will be. I have spent literally thousands of ££ in the last 12mths. I did a quick count up in my head the other day driving home from the LFS after yet another purchase and got to a total of around £3000 that I've spent setting up a very low tech 55gal...I have no clue what I've spent on my nano tanks

wow that's pretty much. Glad you posted that on here. I was wondering how much it costs to run a nano tank like that. I was thinking of starting one up. But now I think i will most certainly be waiting for a bit.

Yeah, but remember you don't actually buy everything at once. if you really want to, go ahead and do it, just start smaller if funds don't allow for it. I think it's a great hobby!

My 5 gallon has cost me about 85$ so far.. but I also just have LR, 3 hermits, 2 turbos, cheap crushed coral substrate, a tiny powerhead... no hood, and a cheapo light a stole from one of my 10 gallons I took apart.
