Third Time Lucky I Hope

Hi drewry :)

I'm glad to hear the fry are still thriving. It will be good that you are getting a larger tank. It will give them more room to grow.

hi Inchworm :good:

there doing great im feeding them little and often,
and doing 2 water changes a day and i clean the container every day aswell :good:

iv allready got the 2ft tank set up but its got endlers in it which are going to my brothers tank next week,
should i put sand in the tank iv got black graval at the minite but im takeing that out because i wouldnt see the fry :shifty: ,
and if so can i use playsand or do i need a special aquarium sand
or should i have no substate

thxs in advance :good:

Hi drewry :)

How are they doing? Don't feel too bad about losing a few fry. It always happens. They are so tiny and delicate that nature compensates by making the fish lay so many eggs.

Just keep doing your best. Raising cory fry is not easy. You have been doing well so far.

and im geting a 4x2x2ft tank just after christmas so ill be able to get a good few in there

well day 9 and wriglers doing really good .
lost a few more but still over 100 left.
tryed to get some pics but there to bad to put on.
ill have to invest in a good cam after christmas or wait till they get a bit bigger.
just orderd a turkey baster of ebay its a right pain in the back side trying to clean them out daily now there in the 2ft tank

just started to feed my 200+ 2 day old fry and there on the march looking for food lol

Hi drewry :)

I'm not sure a turkey baster will do the job if they're in a regular tank. I suspect it might be easier to just use an ordinary gravel vac. With corys it's very important to not only change some of the water, but to remove all the leftover food on the bottom. Keeping the bottom clean is the single most difficult part of raising corys.

hi Inchworm :)

i have been useing a gravel vac but some fry are bigger than otheres and a few get sucked up.
im haveing to take them out the bucket after iv vaced and [put them back in the tank
i do two 30% water changes daily and take uneatend food out pluss i scrub the bottom and sides daily

but i have found it easyer today to take uneatend food out with a net first then vac it but know matter what you do its all time consuming but worth it in the end :good: .
iv just give them a bit of hard boileld egg york for the first time today mixed into a paste with a bit of water, and they love it .
ill give them it once a week as a treat :good:

 Now egg is really hard to clean up after! You must really be dedicated...

Glad all is going well. :good:

hi ICEEGRL

well iv avoided it up to now after ever one says its hard to clean.
but to tell you the truth my waters still spotlessly clean after 3 hours.
i supose if you do it to runny or put to much in ,it will be a problem :good:
i put 2 balls in the size of peas and they have nearly eaten it all

Hi drewry :)

I have always heard that hard boiled egg is a good food for fry, but only tried it once. This was one of my earlier spawns and I still had gravel on the bottom of the tank. I was told to stir it into water and break it up. What a mistake that was! I was netting out moldy egg bits (that looked like dandelions) for days. I think you did a better thing by leaving it in bigger pieces and clean up will be easier too, since you have a bare bottom tank. :D

hi Inchworm :)

yeah iv just done my last vacume and water change for the night and had no problems with it at all,
i only added a tiny drop of water to the egg mashed it up with a folk and rolled it into balls :good:

day 12 and wrigles doing great havent lost any for a wile now and there getting bigger some are 1cm long,
also my 5 day olds are in with them now in the fry tank and also doing well had a few losses :good:
pluss today i got a suprize i was cleaning the pairents tank out and puting new food in when 2 fry just over 1cm long came out the stones i put in the tank, when i left 20 eggs to hatch in there incase the ones in the container didnt :hyper: iv left them in the with the pairents as they have survived this long and when the big corys went near them they shot of at 100 miles an hour lol
