This is a better pic of the one I got in pets at home. I've had no problems with this one at all but it's only young. I just think it looks like it may be a boy. What do you think

Pic a bit blurry but from the long dorsal and ventrals yoy may be right. Watch for the full beard when it flares.
cheers

I don't know what to do now. Should I wait a bit longer and see? I see no beard yet and he hasn't flared. Or shall I take him back to the shop?

HI Marie ,personally i`d take it back and swap it for one that they could guarantee was a female ,phone up before you go just to make sure thy`ve got females in and they`ll take it back.

They did guarantee it was but you know what they're like. she has no beard and hasn't flared once so I dunno whether to keep an eye on her and keep her or what atm.

I bought a group of 6 girls and 2 of them turned out to be boys. The guy who sold them to me insisted after I told him that they couldn't possibly be boys! Total idiot,- it is very clear that they are! Mickey was being aggressive and so he was moved straight away. Rose/Rory on the other hand has never shown any signs of aggression and is still living happily in with all the ladies :good: Personally I couldn't say whether yours is male or female as I've seen several females with longer finage that I would have expected to be male! Vicki and Siobhan are usually very good at noticing things like this. Vicki has already said she thinks it's a boy. Let's see what Siobhan says! :D

Thanks, I'd also appreciate your guys opinion on whether I should continue to leave him/her in there and see or what. Atm it hasn't flared at all and keeps totally to it's self. I see no beard and I'm guessing it's too young for an egg spot. I was wondering I could safelyave it in there until it's a bit older and see if I can tell then or if it starts giving me any trouble.

What do you guys think I should do.

its ventrals do look rather long for a female but saying that my 1st group had a very male looking fish that was female, i would be tempted to leave it be for now, maybe get a breeder net/box incase then seperate if needed and go from there :good:

Personally Marie I would leave 'her' in there. If there isn't any trouble then I don't see the need to separate them. :D

Thanks guys. The only fish he's chased is the tiny betta i got. That tiny one has an egg spot which I noticed today but this one we're not sure on doesn't. Should he/she be showing one by now?

I'll leave it in for now and see what happens.

If you get the chance, show him/her a mirror and see for the beard flare
