now that things have progressed from just thinking about going marine to actually having a tank full of LR, although my set up isnt as yet fully constructed thoughts are turning towards livestock which i guess is only natural. now my missus has asked me if she can have an input into what goes into the tank and i feel it's only fair to oblige her in this if i can, the problem here is obvious tho, she hasn't a clue about what can or cant go into my system, she is taken by the obvious choices like most people i.e the tangs, either yellow or regal. i have explained to her its not really possible in a 4ft aquarium and i'm not prepared to get juvies and then move them on at a later date, made that mistake in my FW days with a pleco that she got quite attached to, her next suggestion was seahorses and i haven't yet explained to her the specific needs of these, which wont be available in my tank (will have to bite the bullet soon) and i hate having to keep saying no to her choices, i also noticed she seems quite keen on various damsels that we have seen :/ is there anyway i could have maybe a small shoal of these and something else or would single specimens work, the problem here is that i personally would like a pair of clowns and i think i'm right in saying clowns and damsels dont make great bedfellows, in fact it could become quite murderous. i would really appreciate some help with this with a list of compatible fish for a peaceful community. i do know she finds the cardinals we have seen pretty boring if that helps........ kevin
p.s sorry for the long-winded post

Take a look at various gobies, some lovely colours you could tempt her with :)
thanks weez, am really looking for more free swimming fish tho although i'm sure there will be a goby in there too. i forgot to add in the original post that there has to be a yellow fish..... women :S

You could get a yellow neon goby. I really like mandarins but they need corepods to survive so depending on the size of your setup you may need to run copepod cultures to keep him fed. I'm sure given your lust for DIY you can bang together a setup to produce both phytoplankton and copepods. I've heard cultures with both copepods and rotifers do best.

I've got a similar problem with my mom. She loves Marine and is very excited about my saltwater tank. She wants a say in the stock too, but I know she won't make informed decisions. Sooo what I did was get a book. I went through it first and then marked what I could keep in my tank. Then I showed her only those fish. LOLOLOL She still thinks she has a say, but I know that I'm putting fish that are ok for my system.

:shifty:

Naa that doesn't seem to work as I asked for a 10ft but he said NO!

10ft !!!!! got to admire your audacity  ok start by asking for the 10ft tank and then your dad will be pleased as punch if you accept 6ft ;)

Ill try slowly lowering the length when I get some money/job.
