Thinking a nice little thread would be for everyone to share at least one thing this forum has taught them over the time they've been here. One, maybe someone else will learn something new too, and two, to show a bit of appreciation for everyone here.

Mine:

Before this forum, I used to think that GH didn't matter too much for soft water fish in harder water, but not vice versa. This is the first forum I've found that actually explains that this is not true and why it's not good longterm.

So so much. The hard/soft water thing too. That's so rarely mentioned in a lot of places, I've read around a lot and hadn't seen it stressed except for fish or shrimp that are at the extreme end of the spectrum. On the contrary, I've seen several places and articles that said not to worry too much about GH KH and pH unless you wanted something unusual, and that most beginner fish are okay with a wide range of parameters. So I really appreciate finding out about it here, since it's completely changed what fish I'll be keeping and how.

Favourite thing I've learned was from you NC, and it was that some species of cory are okay in harder water, so I'll be able to keep some cories! Thank you for that.

Believe me, you will love them. I have panda Cory’s and they are just the funniest little things to watch.

You have to cycle a tank

That is one of the most important thing to learn, if not the most important of all.

The basics of fishkeeping is which the foundation you build your fish tank career on. The better the foundation, the better your fish tanks are likely to be and therefore the more healthier your fish livestock will be too.

The good start of the small things count for a lot in this hobby and I believe in good starts;)

I started keeping fish before we had broadband so I only had out of date books from the library as my source of info.

Where to start.....
Water changes should be done more often than once every few months
Cycling
Minimum numbers for shoaling fish
Over stocking (coupled with lack of water changes) is not good for fish
Hardness is important
and on and on

I forgot to list that one, definitely a good thing to learn.

I’ve learned a lot on diseases and how to treat. Between my friend, Kim, and Colin_T, I have an entire notebook on diseases. My goal now is to learn about parasites. I need Colin_T for that or my friend, Kim. I believe God is ready to take her home though. If any of you knew Gypsy13 from FL, please keep her in your prayers. She is a wealth of info on fish. :)
