I've always found Maidenhead (you didn't hide the name that well :shifty: ) expensive, but the fish seem healthier then most other places.

However they ain't that expensive at my local branch (Wigan). Although it's been 2 weeks since I was there last. How Big were those cories?

yeah ive also foundd maidenhead tell from the deformed clow very pricey when it comes to cories

  Well at least I tried to hide the name, thought they would moan at me on here.

We have 3 of them round by us and the other 2 don't charge prices that high.

The Sterbai were about 1" normal size really :)

Thats scandalous.

Even with the extra distribution costs to NI we can get sterbi for £4.
I think they need to change their supplier/s
The Czech Republic seems very very good for cheap tropical fish imports these days

Wow those are steep by any rating. Seems a bit odd that its only one Maidenhead that is over charging  I would have thought they were the same price?

Even Trimar are cheaper;

STERBAI 4.99 3 FOR 12.00 ML

so you could probably get them delivered to your door for less than a trip to Maidenhead.

£12.50 for a 1" Sterbai. What are they thinking? Crazy people.

Compared to BAS (see gone into adminstration post elsewhere), I found my Maidenhead to be about twice as expensive. I often found it to be worth it as there fish are heathly. I like how all the tanks are linked together with 1 massive filter system behind the scenes, so the fish are effectively in the same water as each other. Well actually 4 different sections of fish as far as I can tell.

I really wish I had said something now!:grr: There were two young guys in there but were serving, the customers were probably paying £10 for a Neon!

whoa! that's steep!

:hyper: but i thought you english folks were used to these rip offs. that's why you oppose the euro adoption, right? because it would further show how insane your prices are. but i guess euro is off the table anyway, given the UK's budget deficit and the national debt, you just don't qualify for the euro even if you wanted it. which is too bad, because together we could finally bring down the mickey mouse currency.

btw corries range from 1.50 euro to 3.50 euros for the really exotic ones where i shop.

I used maidenhead for my first lot of cories, and they sold so called C.Julli for £5 each or 3 for £12,(later id has C.trilineatus.)

Then i bought some peppers 3 for £6,that went back has i wasn't happy with them.

I've seen a lot of corys on my travels varying between £1.50-£30,usually when i see them cheap there's normally a dead fish in the tank also,so i don't think its worth the stress on buying them!

Lately i've used Cadburys garden centre, their price for leopard and skunks which i recently bought were £4.95 each.

maidenhead are expensive, but to warant prices like that is unbelievable!!

That's expensive. Also, were they true Juliis OP? At our two nearest lfs bronze, peppered and albino are £2.95 each. A big one would be no more than £4.95. One has very small Pandas at £3.95 each. Sterbai are the same. I paid £4.25 each for 4 Melini but they were bigger than an inch and lovely and never seen them before.

I suppose it is true anywhere that a LFS, or any other shop, can charge whatever they please for almost anything. The only thing that surprises me about it is if they manage to make any sales while their prices are way out of line for their location. I will intentionally go out of my way and buy fuel for my car to buy fish at stores that are reasonable, even though there is a LFS within walking distance of my home. I will not reward that kind of behavior by a store, ever.
