… and honestly guys life happens… I didn’t wake up at 5:00 in the morning thinking I was going to take pictures… the tank lights weren’t even on yet… my goal here is thriving fish, not to win awards for my photography… I did scrape algae today, but think I’m feeding Bacter AE tonight, so the glass is not going to be perfect pretty much right away… if I get pictures of them tangled up like salamanders again, I hope they are better than this morning’s pictures…. But no guarantees…

Well… sitting here in the dark, waiting for the 1st background lighting to come on… they were side by side on the pagoda roof, not the front glass ( because there is no algae on it now ) moved apart, as the light came on… nothing to see here today… maybe again in another month or two, when the front glass has a good growth of algae again…. I can only hope…

BTW… these were only listed as

Vanmanenia sp.

by the seller….
I believe this is where Dan’s got them… a little more on the fish, but no breeding information…

Tried looking up what Glasser said it was similar to, of course no breeding info, and they are not the same, as mine have much larger mouths than the

https://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/annamia-normani/

Also mine’s patterns change a lot, depending on the surface they are on….

Always activity though… Denison barbs are courting this morning instead…

What I like about these tanks / photos. I've always liked bristlenose catfish but don't enjoy their bickering when kept together. Do your sucker fish tolerate each other quite well?

with the Hillstream loaches... it's a "Noah's arc" tank... I love that term, another member

@Naughts ... coined, "(This can become quite sophisticated but unfortunately most fish keepers will not put the fish first. Most minimum numbers will be insufficient (6 is not enough for small fish, timid fish, nippy fish and so on) yet the average inexperienced fish keeper will want smaller, not larger group sizes. Maybe this is akin to the ‘Noah’s Ark’ community fish tank where the keeper wants to try 2 of every species and thinks they are then experienced in keeping all of them, when actually they are getting a very poor experience."

in this particular case, they are all very social, I'd expect no differences, if I had 10 different varieties in groups of 3, or 30 of just one species... I try to buy in groups of 3, but there are a couple ( like that red tailed tiger ) that were pretty expensive, & I just bought 2 of them... you can tell by the pictures of the Hillstreams, that have several varieties interacting... in my South American Tetra tank, the various tetras do interact, but most typically swim within the school of their own species...

my goal on this tank, is to set up a new aquarium, & move the Tin Foil Barbs, & the gourami, & let the Denison's be tank boss, & continue to add more different varieties of Hillstreams... ( I had no idea there were so many different varieties, when I started buying them ) I've got several on my buy list, that are only at 1 inch long right now, so much less bio load than the 5 adult Tin Foils

I do like the hillstream loaches, would consider setting up a new tank for them. But I don't need more responsibilities now so I will continue to enjoy yours. Wouldn't have considered them till reading about them.

Byron explained that corydoras can substitute higher numbers with other cory species, so several groups of 4 or 5 of each species to make a sizeable mixed cory group. I'm wondering if hillstream loaches are the same in this respect? Keep us updated!
Byron cautioned that dwarf species might be outcompeted for food when mixed with larger species.

@AJ356 ...

I have 2 super Red's & one long fin blue eye albino, & 3 Giant oto's in this tank... there is no peace, but that's not because of the "cats"... the 4 earth eaters, that were sent to me ( they were supposed to be cupids ), are like professional wrestlers... it's funny they never split a fin, but have everyone in the tank on edge, as they fight amongst themselves... pleco peace in this tank...
