I don't know about everyone else but I seem to find some of the most interesting and amazing things at my work.
Take the other day for instance helping the tree lopper crew take out dead wood and potential dangerous branches from gum trees in one of the towns parks.
One particular hollow branch hit the ground and one of the guys went to pick it up to feed it through the chipper only too drop the log and back away suddenly. This of course attracted all our attention, expecting maybe a wasp nest, large spider, snake or even squished baby birds. Instead this is what was in the log and now homeless.
There was two of them but one eventually flew off because the ants where attacking them, this one also tried flying off but a butcher bird attacked it in mid flight knocking it to the ground. So we rescued it, and carefully removed the ants. Keeping in mind the whole time that almost all bats in Australia are suspected of caring Lyssavirus. We then had it wrapped not only in its bit of bark but also a rag around that to transport it to a vet to be given to a wildlife carer that has had the necessary needles to handle bats.
Then at the same park for Smoko (morning tea), we came across another resident going about its business
A rather big and surprisingly almost black tree snake. We watched it till it disappeared futher up the tree.
And finally the last surprise I don't seem to have a picture for, but it was in a park verge beside the highway headed out of town and just near a pie van. A rather lovely Tawny Frogmouth. A relative of Night Jars and often confused with owls.
So what interesting animals does everyone else come across while at work?
