I don't  know about everyone else but I seem to find some of the most interesting and amazing things at my work.

Take the other day for instance helping the tree lopper crew take out dead wood and potential dangerous branches from gum trees in one of the towns parks.
One particular hollow branch hit the ground and one of the guys went to pick it up to feed it through the chipper only too drop the log and back away suddenly. This of course attracted all our attention, expecting maybe a wasp nest, large spider, snake or even squished baby birds. Instead this is what was in the log and now homeless.

There was two of them but one eventually flew off because the ants where attacking them, this one also tried flying off but a butcher bird attacked it in mid flight knocking it to the ground. So we rescued it, and carefully removed the ants. Keeping in mind the whole time that almost all bats in Australia are suspected of caring Lyssavirus. We then had it wrapped not only in its bit of bark but also a rag around that to transport it to a vet to be given to a wildlife carer that has had the necessary needles to handle bats.

Then at the same park for Smoko (morning tea), we came across another resident going about its business

A rather big and surprisingly almost black tree snake. We watched it till it disappeared futher up the tree.

And finally the last surprise I don't seem to have a picture for, but it was in a park verge beside the highway headed out of town and just near a pie van. A rather lovely Tawny Frogmouth. A relative of Night Jars and often confused with owls.

So what interesting animals does everyone else come across while at work?

That bat is adorable! Of course, I've never handled a bat, so for all I know they could be really nasty up close, but they're so cute...

Sadly, mainly humans, and the occasional rat at work here.

I still havent topped my ultimate at work find...... a platypus in the tidal and salty end of the river smack bang in the middle of the CBD. Although seeing the Indo-pacific humpbacked dolphin in the river again at the CBD was pretty amazing.

One of these days I may yet finally see one of the wild salt water crocodiles in my work area, just I hope not where I mow along the river bank.

We get plenty of two legged " ferals" where I work but I wont comment further on them.

The only animals I usually encounter whilst at work are rabid angry humans with red faces, foaming at the mouth and behaving wildly while they drive their cars.........

Me too, although not a rat, but a mouse ran out from under one cabinet, ran across the room (making one of the big tough football players jump out of his seat and run across the room) and under a different cabinet.

We also get plenty of bugs too. Had a little snake show up out of the concrete block wall once... that was probably the most surprising.

My tally of animals seen the other day at work included a hare (rather surprising but not as surprising as the rabbit I found in a park in the middle of the city- and yes the rabbit was a wild one not a dumped domestic), red backed wrens, a tree snake and numerous more commonly seen birds.

Just yesterday I saw a squatter pigeon ( not common in or around towns/ built up areas) two pacific black ducks which where not scared of the ride on mower allowing them to get a mention when they are as a species commonly seen and wild cockatiels which I often also see feeding in my work area.

I forget, work also includes cows, sheep, pigs, goats, ducks, geese and other assorted farm animals. Plus a fair variety of guard dogs and a selection of other random pets. The odd horse features at times.
