Mention was made of one Dr. Myron Gordon recently . I now bring up the shades of Dr. William T. Innes , George Sprague Myers , Gene Wolfsheimer and Herbert R. Axelrod . Others too are lost to the annals of the hobby and unknown to the present generation of internet aquarium fish keepers . We owe them a great debt of thanks . The hobby would not be what it is without their efforts of days long since gone .
Alas , no one knows , no one cares and no one will acknowledge that we stand on the shoulders of giants .
Rest in peace O heroes . I , for one , remember .

They're some of the US crew, but the Europeans, Australians, Canadians, Chinese, Russians - they all have their own. I'm in awe of a friend who met Baensch, and the list of people who have contributed and still contribute to the hobby is long.

They all shared info, which should be a lesson to how we should do things here. What you learn, big or small, has to be shared. Posts or it didn't happen!

Doesn't surprise me that these folks are not known to the younger generations when you read this

I am reminded of two sayings:

".....where ignorance is bliss,
'Tis folly to be wise." Thomas Gray

"Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." George Santayana
I don't know who any of them are but I put that down to being newer to the hobby! Always willing to learn if people have recommendations :)

That link is horrific but sadly not surprising :(

The topic of the article you linked is absolutely the fault of our deteriorating education system here in the U.S. Most of an individual's personal memories fade away over time. Similarly, the collective memories of community and culture only last as long as they're taught. True for the Holocaust and true for science and husbandry knowledge.

I am one of the older members on this site. When I went to grade school adnd high school we stufied civics and geography. Even worse, I had to take Latin, French and Spanish. I can still say a few words in all those languages. At one point in the 1960s I was close to fluent in Spanish. But lack of use has let most of it to get lost because lack of use.
