The Betta Myth #2

Can you share the GoPro footage?
It wasn't mine. I tried to talk my friend into sharing it, but she is very leery of social media. She wouldn't put it on youtube. There must be others who have done similar videos, but I was lucky to see raw footage. I know, it makes a terrible source to back up!

We had so much fun on Myth #1, lets do another. I have found that water changes , especially jarred males, in a 32 ounce cup can be done at 7 to 10 day intervals of 100% of the water, rather than the recommended 25-50% of the water every 3-4 days. This is going to spark some interest and comments, I am sure.
I'm not really sure why you would keep a betta in this way (unless it's in a store). Where's the pleasure in keeping a fish in such a small barren cup? And yeah I guess it "can" be done but what kind of life is that for any animal really regardless of how often you're changing the water.

Using your assumption, a breeder with 500 fry, needs 500 10 gallon planted tanks?

If possible, I would sell to a store, not possible on any scale.

No sadly it's not true, in nature even if the fish lives in a puddle of dirty water. with poor oxygen... They are filled with all the bacteria and organism that breaks down ammonia and all other toxins known to affect fish.

Bettas are not the slightest more resistant to ammonia than other fishes. It will burns their gills and damages their internal organs, even though they can supplement their oxygen intake through their labyrinth organ.

I believe Johnny is pretty much aware of temperatures required and probably have a room dedicated already.

If I remember his My BBS, Daphnia/Moina and Green Water Culture System Looked like a Lab installation.

I can imagine the rest.
Yes, I do have a dedicated fish room, with all the amenities. I approach all my animal/fish endeavors with my Fathers advice " If you have a half--- facility, and you do a half---job, the results can be no better than half---.

I live in farm country so I have a pretty good understanding of the need for minimalistic housing for profit. OTH I shudder everytime I see Betta in a big box fish store or any other store that jars them

I always have a flash across my mind of me having to live in a half bath without the plumbing hooked up.

No judgement because I understand economics. I do not however understand the consumer and their mason jar. I have way too much respect for living creatures.

When the realm includes creatures under one's direct care there is also a responsibility that should, in my opinion, and I stress in my opinion, that supersedes personal pleasure. The pleasure should be secondary.

Now perhaps these little scaled critters are fat and happy in their predicament, but ...........

As a teacher/rancher most of my life, no one has more respect for life than me, but, we do eat steaks and love our fried catfish, baked cod and Red Snapper???Life goes on.

I will bite once then move along ... I lived pretty much off my land for 45 plus years. Ate livestock, caught fish, grew feed and veggy. I never confused the edibles with my pets, nor did I give any animal less than a good life while it lasted. A good life for a fish is not a quart jat. It may be entertaining for some, just not for me and I think most people with ethics.

I will sign off now.
