OK, i have my CO2 unit going and i`m really confused how i go about testing for CO2 levels. I posted on here a few days ago how the mix wasn`t working and now it is with huge effects, bubble every 2 seconds today!! Now i tested my pH and i was shocked to find it had dropped from my normal tap water acidic base level of 6.8 all the way to the bottom of the test reading kit 6.0 !! Could this all be due to my CO2 levels and if so how do i go about getting a more accurate reading?!

Now i`ve read the CO2 sticky thread and it says you should aim for 30ppm but like i say, it doesnt tell you precisely how to measure the levels and take CO2 readings, i believe its through the pH but would really appreciate some further help!

To test for CO2 you need to know the pH and KH levels of your tank water. You can then use the calculator posted by fishkiller_nomore.

Do you know the KH level? I'm suspecting it is quite low, if your tap water has a pH of 6.8 .

If you think the pH of your tank may have fallen below 6.0, keep an eye on your fish for signs of stress. When injecting CO2 it is advisable to have at least 3 dKH to prevent the pH from crashing.

Good luck!

Another good link is

www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk. They have all sorts of fish calculators. You'll have to register first. Then go to tools/calculators.
