Well... After finding that crab a few days ago i spotted another one in the same piece of rock  Its really hideous - Brown, hairy and i think it has 8 legs  I thought it was a spider at first

Anyway, i've been told on another forum its a teddy bear crab  At this rate im not going to have to buy anything else for my tank, its all just appearing out of the rock :D

lol.....have you checked out the tank at night??? cant wait for your post after seeing all the bristle worms slithering about. :D

T

ps- if it is a teddy bear crab take care, they get that name because they are known to leave the tank at night and are often found on your pillow in the morning.

I have pics but you cant see much in them at all to be honest

He comes out a bit when i feed them cos he grabs the flake/brineshrimp as they go past his little hole! The bristleworms start coming out the second the lights go off

If its a teddybear crab then this is a little monster you need to get rid of. They are ambush predators and will take an unwary fish if they are able.

How do we go about catching a crab then?

Remember i dont put my hands anywhere near these things!! :D

With a marine tank, you may have to occasionally place your digits near an animal you dont like :/
Its something you will have to get used to.

dont be so bloody squirmish, you have no problems with touching the parrots and dogs which can potentially harbour much more dangerous things than a crabs nip!

Theres no real easy way to get the crab out without harming it. If you are comfortable with killing it then just get a knife blate or skewer...

you could take a small plastic bottle, cut the neck off and turn it around so the neck is now inside the bottle. then glue ti back to gether.
Put it in the rockwork with some food in there and wait. the crab will be able to get inside but wont escape. This catches bristleworms too to be wary not to put hands inside... then again i dont think there is much chance of that happening. :D

 My Birdies and doggies would NEVER bite me!!! :p

As for the crab.. He wont come out and im not mean enough to kill him  So i guess he'll have to stay in the tank!

I put my hand in to move the rock around and the little emerald crab tried to grab my finger with his foot  What was he going to do, eat me?! Stooopid thing!!

acctually, your emerald will hang on to your finger if you let him. Its kinda cool feeling. I occasionally give mine a ride around the tank :)...show him where I want him to start munchin' next. :p
