Tattoos

I have 6 at the moment and planning more!! Had 2 of mine featured in skin deep which I thought was great. I have this arguement with my folks all the time as they hate tattoos and say it is not art but I love them and of course say it is art.

It is definitely art, my wife has a phoenix and an imperial dragon on her back and many people have commented on how good it looks, fantastic colours and very classy artwork.
I have large tribal black tattoos from above the elbows to the tops of my shoulders and a large tribal piece across my back.
Every one of my tattoos were one off's with the tattooist ( Dean at Braintree Tattoo studio ) drawing it freehand and then spending two hours just on the design til we were satisfied it was right.
The idea of having a tattoo is individual art, so the mass produced, copied from a tracing does nothing for me really, but a really good, original tattoo artist really is art, just on a living canvas.

I have 5 in total and they didnt hurt, its more the 'sun burn' feeling after.

I think tatoo's are definatly art, you get some really amazing ones.

I know its only a TV show but anyone who watches PRISON BREAK will understand what I mean.....that is one MEAN tatoo!!

Of course tattoos are art! Have you seen some of them?! Amazing!!

I have 2, one on my shoulder when I was 16 and one on my wrist done last year. Neither are very intricate of arty but I am thinking of asking people who are arty (unlike myself) to draw me something when I want one next.

I recently got a tattoo on my right forearm of a phoenix, i really like it, pretty simplistic design. i am now planning a half sleeve on my right arm, i want it to be very intricate, and essentially a piece of art. So yes, i would classify tattoos as art, and it has been considered that in many cultures for thousands of years.

Hmmm wish I could take pics of my tattoos to post! My BF has a bionic sleeve on his arm which is still being done! Personally I don't like it but the detail is very good! He goes to Modern Savage in Wakefield which is really good! Dave is great and we all have a laugh! Needless to say he gets more custom by word of mouth! Some of his work has also been printed in Skin deep! And he has won quite a few awards at conventions! Will hopefully post some of my bfs tattoo soon as well!

Tattoos are definatly art, but wether a particular tattoo is a good/skilled peice of art or not is a completely different matter- i've seen some really terrible tattoos, and on the other hand some very inspiring/great ones. I do think you can be over-tattoo'ed though  .

One is to much for me. I don't like them, especially not on ladies but I couldn't argue that they are not art.

Either one will be in black and white, and will sit between my shoulder blades at its highest point. which does everyone prefer? im leaning towards the second one at the mo
