Tank Update With Pics :)

I have seen the Hemiodus a few times but a few issues with them, either disease, a bit manky, ie clearly been in with a rough crowd or the last time I saw them they were sold

Decided today that Im moving the Nic on caught her cornering my threadfin and mixteco and just thrashing against them so probably next weekend now but shes off

I think we are just going to take them to one of the shops round here sorry rather poor atm and cant afford the petrol to Wharf lol.....

Need to wait till next month till I think about replacements or more fish now. Though see what the shop has next weekend haha!!!

Not throwing out the idea of an other nic in the future this is just not the right one for this tank.

Nothing tbh I am pretty happy with my stock as is so just need to see what I find. Pier and Rare Aquatics are both doing postage now so that might be an option

The thing is I guess I went the Wharf trying really hard to pick out a nice nic that was wagging at me where as with the Mixteco the shop guy kind of got her for me but I was quite happy with her but now shes doing great and really interactive.

I think I would go for an CA over an SA though - quite want some yellow back in the tank so maybe Yellow Convicts which have been after for a while but never can find them...

A nice female salvini or rainbow cichlids would look good in your setup and would bring some yellow colour.

Minnnt - Star is a bit far away unfortunately Shes got a great pair of Daemons for sale atm but too far...

Liam - Always liked Sals but cant quite work out how "bad" they are?

Meguro - Had both and both were nightmares.... nice fish though.


The Mixteco started fighting back tonight, they had a proper little scrap earlier and things seem to have calmed a little.

well we had a salvini when i was younger and. It was good as gold, my friend. had one and again that had no problems in a community cichlid tank but. my other friend. had one that was an absolute terror for about 3 weeks but is now settled, i think each salvini has a individual personality. The females are so stunning and. In your large tank im sure it's worth a try if not I'll take it from you ;-)

Yeah its hard to say - i have heard of similar stories to yours but then others are just totally mental, I think there is talk of putting them in the Parachromis group with Jags and Dovvi!!

Still not ruling out an other Nicaraguan - in all honesty I think this one was too small to judge properly.

I would of thought it being small would work in favour of the pecking order of the tank and would soon be put in its place, you've not had the. Mixteco long have you? Is it really harassing it that bad to warrant getting rid? Hopefully it will calm down.

Yeah I heard that lol to be honest when i upgrade I will be getting one, i found the ones I have seen first hand that once they establish a hierarchy there not aggressive but there not fish that can be picked on easily and will happily defend itself.

Going to keep the nic for now I think - she has calmed down and her nuchal hump has gone down - I call it a nuchal hump I dont actually know what it was but since she has calmed down and the Mixteco has started flaring back shes just getting on with general Nic stuff like digging and building

The Mixteco is brilliant now really quite fiesty flaring at everything colours even better and the blue markings are so bright they are almost neon!!

I saw a female nic yesterday in frisbys when i took some of my fish in, it was looking sorry for itself getting bullied by a Krobia and firemouth of all things and a bit on the thin side, i have had a reshuffle of my stock and have a credit note so im tempted to purchase it, any advice on nics?

Probably just give them time - they are buggers and if its a female will get the nickname of cowbag (they all do) They are all front and have 0 defense unfortunately so if they look in a bad way you have to be really careful they will take on bigger stronger fish and it will end badly but you have to admire their spirit!!

I saw that Krobia a few weeks ago and have to admit quite tempted!
