hello all

i am interested in buying a new tank and although i am not considering getting discus just now i would like to leave my options open for the future, that way i can justify i bigger tank now at more expense if i am sure it will serve me forever

i was looking at the Rena 200, which is 101cm W x 40.5cm D x 61cm H, a total of 55 US gallons

would this tank be large enough to have discus in the future?

i like the fact that it is tall whilst being a metre wide

thanks alot for your help

Bigger is always better but I think 55g is the minimum most people will tell you for Discus. I started with my Discus in a 55g and they did great.

hi there. 55g is plenty big enough. for that size you would proberbly get 3 for 4 pairs of discus. its is also plenty big enough for anything else

The recommended amount per discus is 10g, so in a 55g, you would be able to go with 5 discus with maybe some cardinals as shoaling fish.

thanks guys

does anyone have a Rena aquarium? they look excellent but would like to know if anyone has any experience with the filters and lighting that comes with their tanks?

another question, the tank i was looking at was 55 gallons, but it is only 1 metre long, not the standard 4 foot length for 55 gallon tanks

does this affect the amount of potential discus?

i imagine there must be a minimum length so that they have enough room to swim up and down

It should be okay. It's also wider then a standard 55.
