Tank Journal - Hillstream Temperate River

I have just checked on the eggs and could see little pairs of eyes staring back at me in a few of them! Three others are solid white, which I guess means that they have not been fertilised correctly. The rest seem to be ok. I have now moved the rock and eggs to its own 30l tank with a heater and a homemade sponge filter.

Add some methylene blue or arciflavine to keep the healthy eggs from fungusing. And Congrats!

I dont have either of those in and it will be Saturday before I can get to a shop due to work. Fingers crossed they dont fungus over in the mean time. I have just been back up to see them, and nearly all of the eggs have eyes (apart from the three white ones). It is a little creepy having around 60 pairs of eyes staring at you lol. The fry look like they are going to be small though. I am hoping that jbl nobil fluid artemia will be ok for them if they hatch.

My fingers are crossed!

Not much to update on tonight. A few more eggs had turned white from the inside out. I decided to remove them along with the few that were already white (around 5 in total) in order to try and prevent a fungus forming and potentially attacking the healthy eggs. I did this very carefully using a pippete. The rest look fine.

Well the eggs are now wriggling. The fry are around 3-4mm in length and seem to be trying to eat something inside the egg, possibly the yolk sack? I have a feeling that they may be hatching this weekend at this rate!!

Here is a quick picture of the eggs:

I wish I could, I am going flying tomorrow and mountain biking on Sunday...

Argh!!!

Still no sign of hatching folks. I am down to around 50 at the moment as some have turned white (presumably not fertilised). The rest seem to be doing fine though and I can see them breathing and moving their fins inside.

I've very very angry

......how did I miss this thread!

Great to see such effort going in to produce the right kind of conditions for these fish. Looks lovely too!

How exciting! Have you already prepared for feeding them? What will you give them?

Well I have got some jbl nobil fluid artemia and some interpet liquifry. The interpet one states that it stimulates the growth of infusoria, so I have just started dosing that once daily to get things started. after that, I guess brine shrimp.

Thanks. This set up has taken quite a bit of effort and has been quite testing, but I think that it is finally starting to run self sufficiently in terms of food for the loaches. I think that it is a great tank to sit and watch aswell. I keep getting complained at for spending too much time upstairs with it and not enough with the other half. You had me worried at first as I did wonder what you were angry at with the added suspense of missing a line

I checked the tank before coming to work and saw two eggs which looked like their tops had been ripped open. I could not see any fry crawling around the tank, so thought nothing of it. Anyway, my partner just phoned to say that she can see two fry crawling across the bottom of the tank :hyper:

Cant believe that I have got to work until 6 tonight now :grr:

Cheers. Four have hatched today, but one has since passed away. The remaining eggs are all doing fine and hopefully some more should be ready to hatch soon.

The female goby seems to be carrying eggs again as she has been getting progressively plumper in that region over the last couple of days. I may end up with more eggs soon...
