Tank Cycle

What things can you do to a new tank to help the cycle . I'm not looking for quick solutions. I'm very willing to be patient. I just want to know if there are any tips anyone has or just a general guideline on what i should be doing to make sure my fish have a good tank. Thanks

Thank you SOOO much Kossy. That was one of the best articles on cycling ive read. Much thanks to Alien Anna too. I didn't even know you could succesfully cycle a tank without fish. I allready added some gravel from an established tank and some plants. Im gonna start doing the ammonia thing soon.
